Ques. What is the VTU-RET and how does one apply for PhD at MITE?
Ans. VTU-RET (VTU Research Entrance Test) is the doctoral entry test conducted by Visvesvaraya Technological University. Candidates apply through the VTU portal when notified, appear for VTU-RET, and register provisionally at MITE after clearing the test. GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET qualifiers may be exempted from VTU-RET as per current VTU rules.
Ques. Can a JRF fellowship holder receive a stipend while pursuing PhD at MITE?
Ans. Yes. UGC-JRF and CSIR-JRF fellowship holders are entitled to monthly fellowship amounts as per UGC and CSIR norms respectively. GATE-qualified PhD students may also be eligible for AICTE/VTU fellowship support. These are external fellowships independent of MITE’s institutional fee of INR 2,11,000.
Ques. Is part-time PhD offered at MITE Moodbidri?
Ans. VTU allows part-time PhD registration for working professionals in certain circumstances. Candidates should confirm part-time PhD availability at MITE for their specific discipline directly with the VTU PhD section or MITE’s research office, as seat availability may vary by department.
Ques. How long does a PhD at MITE typically take to complete?
Ans. The minimum doctoral duration is three years and the maximum is generally six years as per VTU regulations. Duration depends on research progress, publication requirements, and thesis submission timelines. Most full-time scholars complete within four to five years.
Ques. Which PhD disciplines at MITE are registered as VTU research centres?
Ans. All seven disciplines at MITE are affiliated to VTU, Belagavi: Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. Each department at MITE functions as a registered VTU research centre for doctoral work.
Ques. Can Karnataka SC/ST candidates get full fee support for MITE PhD?
Ans. Yes. Karnataka-domicile SC/ST PhD candidates are eligible for full fee reimbursement as per state government norms. Candidates must apply through the relevant state welfare department after enrolment. This can fully offset the INR 2,11,000 programme fee.
