CSIR- Institute of Mineral and Material Technology situated in Orissa was established in the year 1964 in Odessa. The university status was granted under AICTE (all India council for technical education). The institute offers several doctoral courses in engineering and science.

Under the engineering category, the college offers a PhD degree in material science, metallurgical science, electronics, chemical science.

The admission criteria for PhD programmes are distinguished based on science and engineering postgraduate competencies.
