AITS B.Tech {Lateral} (Civil Engineering) FAQs
Ques. I have a Diploma in Civil Engineering from a college outside Rajasthan. Can I still apply for lateral entry at AITS Udaipur through LEEP?
Ans. Yes, candidates from outside Rajasthan can apply for Rajasthan LEEP, but they fall under the "other state quota" which has only 15% of the total seats reserved. Rajasthan domicile candidates are given priority in seat allotment. However, AITS also offers direct management quota admissions where state domicile is not a barrier. If you are from outside Rajasthan and want to secure admission, it is advisable to contact AITS directly for management quota seats, as LEEP seats for non-Rajasthan candidates are limited and competition can be high.
Ques. What is the difference between the regular B.Tech Civil Engineering and the B.Tech Lateral Entry Civil Engineering at AITS?
Ans. The regular B.Tech Civil Engineering is a 4-year program starting from the 1st year (1st semester), open to 10+2 students. The Lateral Entry (D2D - Diploma to Degree) program is a 3-year program where diploma holders directly enter the 2nd year (3rd semester), skipping the first year entirely. The curriculum from the 3rd semester onwards is the same for both streams. The lateral entry batch has 60 seats at AITS, and the degree awarded at the end is the same B.Tech degree from RTU, Kota - there is no distinction on the degree certificate between lateral and regular entry.
Ques. Is the AITS campus safe and well-connected? I am from another state and worried about accommodation.
Ans. AITS is located near Umarda Railway Station, about 11 km from Udaipur city. The campus has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, both WiFi-enabled with facilities like gym, TV room, indoor games, and outdoor sports. The college also provides a free bus facility for the 2026-27 batch. Students from J&K have previously studied here under the PMSSS scheme and have reported a cooperative environment. However, some student reviews mention that the campus area is relatively compact and sports infrastructure could be better. It is advisable to visit the campus before finalizing admission.
Ques. What is the placement scenario specifically for Civil Engineering lateral entry students at AITS?
Ans. AITS has a Training and Placement Cell that works with 35+ companies. Recruiters have included names like Tata Motors, Siemens, Hyundai, Ashok Leyland, and Indian Army among others. However, it is important to note that civil engineering placements at AITS are not as prominent as CSE or Mechanical. Many civil engineering graduates from AITS pursue government jobs (PWD, CPWD, Railways) or higher studies (M.Tech/GATE) rather than campus placements. Students interested in core civil engineering roles should focus on GATE preparation alongside their degree for better career prospects.
Ques. Can I get admission to AITS B.Tech Lateral Civil Engineering without going through LEEP counselling?
Ans. Yes. AITS offers management quota admissions directly, where you can apply through the college website or by visiting the campus. The eligibility criteria remain the same (Diploma in Civil Engineering with 45% marks), but you do not need to go through the LEEP counselling process. Management quota fees are the same as the regular fee structure (INR 77,402 per year). The application process starts from July 1, 2026. It is recommended to apply early as management quota seats are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ques. After completing B.Tech Lateral Civil Engineering from AITS (RTU-affiliated), will my degree be valid for government jobs and GATE?
Ans. Yes, absolutely. The B.Tech degree from AITS is awarded by Rajasthan Technical University (RTU), Kota, which is a recognized state technical university. This degree is valid for all government job applications including SSC JE, UPSC ESE, state PWD/CPWD recruitment, and GATE examination. The lateral entry route does not affect the validity of the degree - you receive the same B.Tech (Civil Engineering) degree as regular students. GATE eligibility requires a B.Tech degree from a recognized institution, and RTU-affiliated degrees fully qualify.
