AOT B.Tech Lateral FAQs
Ques. Can a diploma holder from any engineering branch get lateral entry to any B.Tech branch at AOT Hooghly?
Ans. Not always. WBJEEB counselling for lateral entry generally requires a relevant diploma background for specific branches. A Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology is preferred for CSE and CSBS, while Electrical and Mechanical diplomas align with EE, EEE, and ME respectively. The final branch eligibility norms are governed by WBJEEB and MAKAUT guidelines; applicants should verify branch-specific requirements on the wbjeeb.nic.in portal before filling choices.
Ques. Is the B.Tech Lateral degree from AOT Hooghly equivalent to the regular 4-year B.Tech for government jobs and GATE?
Ans. Yes. The B.Tech degree awarded by MAKAUT on completion of the Lateral Entry programme at AOT Hooghly is equivalent to the standard 4-year B.Tech. The final degree certificate does not indicate lateral entry. It carries the same recognition for government jobs, PSU recruitment, GATE eligibility, and M.Tech admissions at NITs and central universities.
Ques. What documents should I carry to WBJEEB counselling for B.Tech Lateral Entry at AOT?
Ans. Carry original copies and self-attested photocopies of all Diploma semester mark sheets, the Diploma pass certificate, JELET 2026 rank card, Madhyamik or 10+2 mark sheet, date of birth proof, caste or category certificate (if applicable), West Bengal domicile certificate, and recent passport-size photographs. Always cross-check the complete document list in the official WBJEEB counselling notification before appearing.
Ques. Does AOT Hooghly offer any direct or management quota seats for B.Tech Lateral Entry outside WBJEEB?
Ans. No. All B.Tech Lateral Entry seats at Academy of Technology (AOT), Hooghly are filled exclusively through WBJEEB centralised counselling based on JELET 2026 rank. There are no separate college-level entrance tests or management quota seats outside the WBJEEB process for this programme.
Ques. Can B.Tech Lateral Entry graduates from AOT Hooghly appear for GATE and pursue M.Tech at NITs?
Ans. Yes. GATE eligibility extends to holders of a B.Tech or B.E. degree from AICTE-approved institutions, including lateral entry graduates. AOT’s B.Tech Lateral programme is AICTE-approved and MAKAUT-affiliated, so graduates are eligible for GATE and subsequent M.Tech admissions at NITs, IITs, and central universities, subject to individual institute eligibility criteria.
