PGIMER PGDPHM FAQs
Ques. Can doctors working in private hospitals apply for PGDPHM at PGIMER?
Ans. No. PGDPHM at PGIMER is exclusively for government-sponsored candidates. Only medical officers employed in Central/State/UT government health services, autonomous bodies, or government medical colleges are eligible. Private practitioners and doctors at private hospitals cannot apply.
Ques. How many seats are available in PGDPHM at PGIMER and how competitive is it?
Ans. PGIMER offers 10 seats per session in the PGDPHM programme. Selection is through a Computer-Based Test (100 MCQs on Public Health, 90 minutes) followed by a mandatory interview. Since seats are limited and eligibility is restricted to government-sponsored officers, competition depends on the number of applications received each year.
Ques. Is there hostel accommodation for PGDPHM students at PGIMER?
Ans. No. PGIMER does not provide hostel accommodation for PGDPHM students. Candidates must arrange their own accommodation in Chandigarh. This is different from other PGIMER programmes where campus hostel facilities are available.
Ques. What is the exam pattern for the PGIMER PGDPHM entrance test?
Ans. The PGIMER PGDPHM Entrance Test is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 100 MCQs to be completed in 90 minutes. Questions cover Public Health topics including epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and community medicine. Candidates shortlisted on merit are then called for a mandatory interview.
Ques. Do PGDPHM students at PGIMER continue to get their government salary during the programme?
Ans. Yes. Since PGDPHM is a government-sponsored programme, students continue to draw their regular government salary throughout the one-year programme. The course fee of ₹4,570 (including a refundable security deposit of ₹1,000) is typically borne by the sponsoring department.
Ques. Does PGDPHM from PGIMER qualify for promotion in government health services?
Ans. The PGDPHM is a postgraduate diploma from PGIMER, an Institute of National Importance, recognised by NMC. Whether it qualifies for promotion or selection-grade benefits depends on the rules of the individual state/central government health department. Candidates should verify with their sponsoring department’s service rules before applying.
