JSS Medical College MSc FAQs

Ques. What research infrastructure is available for MSc students at JSSAHER?

Ans. JSSAHER has dedicated research laboratories for genomics, biochemistry, pharmacology, and microbiology on the Mysuru campus. MSc students conducting thesis research can access these facilities alongside PhD scholars and faculty. JSS Hospital serves as a clinical research site for MSc programmes in Echocardiography and Clinical Embryology, giving postgraduate students access to real patient data and ART lab infrastructure. Students interested in publishing research findings are supported by faculty mentors from relevant departments.

Ques. How does the MSc Clinical Embryology programme at JSSMCH prepare students for ART clinic roles?

Ans. The MSc in Clinical Embryology at JSSMCH covers the science of fertilisation, embryo culture, cryopreservation, and IVF protocols. Students get hands-on training at JSS Hospital’s fertility unit, working under reproductive medicine specialists and clinical embryologists. Graduates are equipped to work as embryologists in IVF centres, fertility hospitals, and reproductive research labs. The programme is structured for a career in a sector where trained embryologists are in short supply across India and internationally.

Ques. Is MSc Forensic Odontology at JSSMCH useful for government forensic service roles?

Ans. MSc Forensic Odontology trains students in bite-mark analysis, dental record identification, mass disaster victim identification, and medicolegal dental examination. It is a PG-level qualification suitable for roles with central and state forensic science laboratories, police departments, and medicolegal units. Government forensic roles are typically filled through competitive exams like UPSC or state PSC scientific officer posts, for which an MSc in Forensic Odontology is a relevant qualifying degree alongside general forensic science qualifications.

Ques. Can MSc Medical Physiology graduates from JSSMCH qualify to teach at medical colleges?

Ans. NMC regulations require demonstrators and tutors in preclinical subjects like Physiology to hold a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject. An MSc in Medical Physiology from a recognised institution such as JSSAHER meets this criterion. Graduates can join as demonstrators or junior faculty at medical colleges while simultaneously preparing for a PhD or MD Physiology if they wish to advance to a full assistant professor position. The MSc from JSSAHER carries the weight of a deemed university PG degree for recruitment purposes.

Ques. What distinguishes MSc Medical Genetics from MSc Medical Genetics and Genomics at JSSAHER?

Ans. The MSc Medical Genetics and Genomics programme at JSSAHER incorporates genomic technologies including next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and population genomics alongside classical genetics. MSc Medical Genetics typically covers chromosomal analysis, Mendelian disorders, and genetic counselling. The Genomics addition means students also learn computational approaches to genomic data analysis, which is relevant for careers in precision medicine, cancer genomics, and genetic diagnostic labs. Prospective students interested in cutting-edge molecular research would benefit more from the Genomics variant.
