  • At McMaster, the academics are a good mix of theory and practical work.
  • The course is challenging but doable if you stay on top of things.
  • Professors are approachable, and group projects make learning fun, though workload can get heavy at times.
  • Usually, there are 3 - 4 classes a day between 9 AM - 5 PM, with around 40–60 students per class. The batch is diverse, and Indian students make up about 60 - 65%, so it feels international but still friendly.

Fees

  • Fees were charged per semester. I had to complete 30 credits to complete my course.
  • Each primary subject was consisted of 3 credits, secondary subjects consisting of 1.5 credits each. You can take up to 5 subjects maximum per semester.
  • A 3 credits subject would cost about $5000.
  • Other charges like university health insurance($900), transportation pass($300) and some additional fees were paid yearly. Mine was a 2 year program.
  • My rent was around $600-$800 per month. Grocery expense was around $150 - $200 per month and other miscellaneous expenses would sum up to around $100 - $150 per month.

  • The courses are very easy if the student knows much about the subjects, otherwise some courses need creativity skills to complete the projects.
  • All the courses have assignments and one project and the grade is calculated from the overall marks from the course submissions.
  • There are many courses offered for some streams but the automotive stream has many less courses and those even doesn't open in any of the terms.

Fees

  • The tuition fees are credit based and each course requires 3 credits. One credit costs around $1,800. Then there are other supplementary fees and heath card costs totalling to around $2,000 per year.
  • One can complete the degree in 1 year but need to do 10 courses (30 credits) in total to complete the degree.
  • The fees is charged credit-based based on the number of courses one takes in each term.
  • The monthly expenses are around $1000 dollars, in which the rent takes around $600-700 depending on the type of off-campus accommodation one wants. Otherwise the on-campus rent costs around $1300.
  • The transportation is free of cost and the groceries could cost around $200 per month and other bills like communication and all costs around $50. Then there are some miscellaneous costs that could make the total go to $1000.
  • If the student wants on-campus accommodation then the monthly expenses could increase by $600.

It's up to date, I must say in some of the subjects we were taught the software which has just been introduced in the market. If you opt in for Co-Op you would get industrial experience also.

My course is designed in two ways, one is a course-based option and the other one is a course +project-based option. To graduate, one has to finish 30 credits (10 courses or 8 courses + 2 projects). Both of the options are good on their own. As for project-based, you will be working with industry and doing a project on the problem that they are facing or the solution that they need, so by doing this you will get a chance to make a relationship with them, which later on will be helpful for a full job position. As far as the courses is concerned, all the courses are designed in such a way that you will get not only theoretical knowledge but also practical knowledge too. Unlike writing theoretical exams, almost all the courses involve projects, assignments, and reflection papers.
