- The objective of the School of Urban Planning is to produce qualified professional urban planners for the public and the private sectors and to equip them with the necessary intellectual and practical skills in this respect.
- This M.A program emphasizes the acquisition of skills used in the analysis of complex problems, policies, and strategies in transportation planning.
- A number of courses, an internship, and a final research project prepare students for professional practice in Urban Transportation Planning.
- Students in the program also benefit from expertise in transportation engineering found outside the School.
- Students must register for at least four terms and earn satisfactory grades (i.e., a minimum of B-) in all courses.
- This program comprises a total of 60 credits completed over a two-year period: Required core courses (49 credits), and Complementary courses (11 credits).
- Upon completion of the program, graduates are expected to have acquired basic planning skills, a broad understanding of urban issues, and specialized knowledge in a field of their own choice.

- Official Transcripts: Students need to submit a copy of their original transcripts. Each transcript must include a key or legend.
- Statement of Interest: Statement of interest is one of the few ways to describe that faculty have to understand the student's motivation, the seriousness of purpose, and their level of commitment to the discipline and (of one to two pages), explaining your motivation for applying to the School, area(s) of specific interest, and longer-term career goals.
- Two Reference Letter: Students will choose letter writers who will be able to comment on their academic record and other experiences or relevant skill sets.
- CV/Resume: including a summary of your academic background, professional experience, and other relevant activities (e.g., community involvement, volunteer work, etc.).
- Academic documents.
- English Language Requirement Scores like TOEFL, IELTS, etc.

A four-year bachelor’s degree is typically required to apply for graduate admission at McGill University. However, the university also somtimes accepts applications from students who have completed a three-year bachelor’s degree on a case-by-case basis. However, meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program, as admission decisions are highly competitive and based on a holistic review of each students’s credentials.
