Intake Application Opens Deadline Expected Decision
Fall 2027 September 2026 01 February 2027 March–April 2027
Winter 2028 May 2027 01 October 2027 November 2027

Concordia ranks 351–400 in QS World University Rankings 2026; the university is classified as a comprehensive research institution by the Canadian Association of Universities (AUCC). Engineering programmes are continuously accredited by CEAB (Engineers Canada).

Academic Eligibility

International students must complete secondary education (12 years) equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma. Admission is competitive; average admitted students have 12th-grade scores of 75–85% (or equivalent GPA 3.5–3.8).

Requirement Minimum Competitive
12th-grade mathematics (or Pre-Calculus) 70% 80%+
12th-grade physics 70% 80%+
12th-grade chemistry Recommended 75%+
Overall average (4 subjects) 72% 80%+

English Language Proficiency (ELP) Requirements

Concordia requires proof of English proficiency from all international applicants whose primary education was not in English. Tests accepted are TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, PTE, and CAEL.

Test Overall Minimum Component Minimums
TOEFL iBT 90 Writing 21, Speaking 20, Reading 20, Listening 20
IELTS (Academic) 6.5 All bands ≥6.0; no band below 5.5
Duolingo English Test 120 No specific component minimum; overall score used
PTE Academic 59 All sections ≥50
  • IELTS is the most cost-effective for Indian students; test centres are widespread and retakes common.
  • TOEFL score reflects North American classroom readiness better; Canadian universities treat it as equal weight to IELTS.
  • Duolingo is accepted but less familiar to admissions committees; if Duolingo score is borderline, pair it with a TOEFL/IELTS retake.
  • No band waiver below 5.5 on IELTS; speaking/writing (22+/90+ TOEFL) are heavily weighted for engineering programmes because lab reports and group projects are core assessments.
Indian Applicant Reality: Average Indian applicant achieves IELTS 6.5–7.0 after 2–3 attempts. Admission is competitive; in recent years, 60–65% of international applicants were admitted, but accepted students averaged 80%+ in 12th-grade sciences. Strong English (7.0+) + 82% average gives you solid odds.

Concordia University Computer Engineering Scholarships 2027

Concordia’s merit scholarships are awarded automatically during admission processing based on academic achievement. No separate scholarship application is required. Below are typical awards for international engineering undergraduates.

Scholarship Award Eligibility Frequency
Presidential Scholarship Full tuition + fees + books + residence Exceptional (top 2–3 admits); leadership + academics First year, renewable
Entrance Scholarship (Engineering) C$4,000 (one-time) Top 20% of admission cohort; 80%+ average First year only
Merit Award C$8,000–16,000 Strong academic record; varies by faculty discretion First year, sometimes renewable

Most Indian students fall into the Entrance Scholarship or Merit Award range. Presidential Scholarship is rare but possible if you have 85%+ average and demonstrated leadership.

  • Scholarships offset 10–40% of first-year tuition only; subsequent years are full-price unless renewable awards are confirmed.
  • Graduate-level scholarships (Master’s/PhD) are more generous; ask about TA/RA positions (C$12,000–18,000/year stipends) after admission.
  • No need-based aid for international students; all awards are merit-based.
Scholarship Reality: Do not rely on scholarships to fund four years. Use them to reduce year-1 costs, then budget full tuition for years 2–4. Competitive scholarships require 82%+ average and documented leadership roles.

Concordia University Computer Engineering Salary 2027

Concordia’s engineering graduates report strong placement rates and early-career salaries. Below are indicative gross figures from the Concordia Graduate Employment Survey (2024–2025 cohort, 6 months post-graduation).

Role Base Salary (CAD) Base Salary (INR) Placement Rate
Software Developer / Engineer C$62,000–72,000 INR 42.88–49.81 Lakhs 92%
Embedded Systems Engineer C$58,000–68,000 INR 40.14–47.05 Lakhs 88%
IT Systems Administrator C$50,000–60,000 INR 34.60–41.51 Lakhs 85%
Hardware Design Engineer C$60,000–70,000 INR 41.54–48.43 Lakhs 90%

Source: Concordia Career Services (2025); internal graduate survey, 6 months post-graduation.

After-tax take-home in Ontario (typical for tech jobs) is 75–80% of gross due to federal + provincial income tax (total rate ~20–25% at C$65,000 salary). Use a Canadian tax calculator to verify exact deductions.

  • Salaries above reflect Canadian-hired graduates; returning to India post-degree typically yields lower offers unless you secure H-1B sponsorship (US) or arrange transfer within MNCs.
  • First three years see 5–8% annual increases; senior engineer roles (7+ years) reach C$95,000–120,000.
  • Signing bonuses (C$3,000–8,000) are common for Bay Area and Toronto tech roles.
  • Many graduates pursue Master’s degrees immediately (funded via TA/RA positions) to increase earning potential post-Master’s (C$75,000–90,000).
Salary Reality: Canadian salaries are 20–30% lower than US equivalents. If you plan to return to India, a BEng from Concordia + 2 years Canadian work experience carries weight in Indian tech firms and MNC India offices (offer: ~INR 18–26 Lakhs).

Concordia University Computer Engineering Ranking 2026

Concordia does not hold a subject-level ranking in QS, THE, ARWU, or FT specializations for computer science or engineering. The university’s overall rank is 351–400 in QS World University Rankings 2026.

Computer engineering and computer science programmes are not separately ranked at the course level in major global indices. Programme strength is best assessed through accreditation (CEAB-accredited, valid Canada-wide), employer feedback, and graduate employment data rather than rankings.

Ranking Honesty: Concordia is a mid-tier research university regionally strong in engineering and business. It is not a Russell Group equivalent (UK) or R1 research university (US). Choose it for post-study work access, not prestige. The programme is solid for employment and PGWP; it does not serve PhD aspirations or research-heavy roles.

Bachelor of Engineering [BEng] Computer Engineering FAQs

Ques. Is Concordia’s Computer Engineering degree recognized in India?

Ans. Concordia’s engineering degree is CEAB-accredited (Engineers Canada), which is recognized by Engineers India (EI) under mutual recognition agreements. You can register as an International Associate Member (IAM) with EI and work as a consultant in India, but practising as a Professional Engineer (PE) requires India PE exam. For tech jobs in India, the degree is fully recognized; employer preference is STEM degree + 2+ years Canadian/global work experience.

Ques. Can I work part-time during my studies?

Ans. Yes. International students on a valid study permit can work up to 20 hours/week during academic sessions and full-time (40 hours) during semester breaks. Many engineering students work in campus IT support, tutoring, or summer internships to offset living costs. Off-campus work is allowed on-campus and at designated employers; your study permit will specify restrictions.

Ques. What is the gender diversity in Concordia’s Computer Engineering programme?

Ans. Engineering is male-dominated; Concordia’s Computer Engineering cohort is approximately 20–25% women. Concordia offers women-in-tech mentorship, GWE (Gender in Engineering) club, and tailored support. Indian women engineers report strong peer networks and equal post-graduation job placement as men.

Ques. Can I transfer to other Canadian universities after first year?

Ans. Yes, credits transfer between Canadian universities, but engineering is restricted by programme sequence. Transferring after first year is possible to University of Toronto, McMaster, or UBC, but you may lose 6–12 credits and delay graduation by 1 semester. Most students stay at Concordia; transfer is rarely worth it unless you target a higher-ranked school.

Ques. What happens if I fail a course during my BEng?

Ans. Failing a core course requires retake in the next available semester. Failed courses are retaken for grade replacement; your GPA is recalculated with the new grade. Failing 2+ courses in one semester may trigger academic probation and a one-semester study plan review. Repeating fails delays graduation by 1 semester (adds ~C$9,600 tuition cost).

This Bachelor of Engineering programme is designed for self-driven problem-solvers seeking a 4-year pathway to Canadian work experience and permanent residence. Strength lies in post-graduation placement, PGWP eligibility, and access to Montreal’s growing tech ecosystem rather than prestige rankings. Indian applicants with 80%+ science averages and IELTS 6.5+ are competitive; the programme balances theory with hands-on lab work and is ideal if you plan to stay and work in Canada post-degree.
