  • MA in Philosophy at the University of Victoria is offered as a 1-year program by the Department of Philosophy. 
  • The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
  • Students will have the freedom to explore everything from moral and political philosophy to metaphysics. 
  • Students will study advanced philosophy topics, including a seminar on research methods in the field.
  • Students will find that the big questions of philosophy are universal and can be applied to the significant issues facing humanity and the ethical dilemmas we each face every day. The study of philosophy can be applied to virtually any discipline, like medicine, science, politics, and law.
  • The MA program consists of a minimum of 15 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must have an undergraduate degree in philosophy or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A grade point average of 6.0/9.0 (B+) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in philosophy or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
