- MA in Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria is offered as a 3-years program by the School of Child and Youth Care.
- The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
- The program has an applied focus, preparing professional practitioners in the child and youth care field for leadership in advanced practice, training, research, and service support roles.
- This academic program draws from a variety of disciplines and approaches including but not limited to child and youth care, social pedagogy, education, psychology, health, criminology, Indigenous studies, anthropology, women’s studies, political theory, and sociology.
- In this program, students will develop an understanding of issues related to children and youth. Their learning will be informed by multi-disciplinary theory and practice-based instruction.
- The program of study consists of a total of 18 units.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have an undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- A grade point average of 5.0/9.0 (B or equivalent) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
Indian Student Eligibility:
- Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in Child and Youth Care or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

- Two Letter of Recommendation: Letter of recommendation (combination of professional and academic recommenders) which includes information about the student, their connection with the person they are recommending, their qualification, and the specific skills they have.
- Statement of Purpose: This statement must describe your qualifications and the objectives of your intended educational program.
- Statement of Intent: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
- Official Transcripts: Applicants who have attended and/or received degrees from institutions outside the US must provide certified copies and certified English translations of transcripts or records of all previous post-secondary education and of all degrees conferred.
- ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
