What Students Say
Likes
- Excellent student support resources from mental health to build life in Canada and many more
- Library is huge and you can borrow upto 100 books, that's awesome
- Beautiful campus, Campus is spread across Southern Winnipeg and is huge, it has excellent network of underground tunnels, which is boon during -30 C winter.
Dislikes
- There is nothing which I didn't like about university if I be honest, they have thought about everything student might need and have already provided it, the only thing I didn't like truly sometimes is course availability but there are limited number of professors teaching so I can understand, hence overall I do not have anything major which I didn't like about my university.
Course Curriculum
- Courses are difficult, please be prepared to study here otherwise it will be difficult to survive, finance courses are extremely tough for non finance background person so be prepared to study 3-4 hours a day at that time, curriculum is mixed of both theoretical and practical
- I had 3 classes per week each was for 3 hours so not many classes but some semester I had 5 classes per week , each 3 hours,.it depends on how quickly you want to finish your MBA, we have afternoon and evening classes and very few morning ones, in my batch 50% were Indian students,
Admission Experience
-
I got accepted in all universities I have applied to, I have only applied for Master of Business Administration in all of them, I had Mechanical engineering degree and almost 5 years of work experience which helped me securing these admissions,
- University of Manitoba - Accepted and joined,
- University of New Brunswick - Accepted,
- University of Northern British Columbia - Accepted,
- University Canada West - Accepted,
- I have chosen University of Manitoba because of its AACSB accreditation, Location in Smaller province, good reviews from alumni and strong reputation in Manitoba, better PR pathways for Manitoba,
- For admission process - first you have to apply with SOP, GMAT, then based on your GPA and other factors, they were offering GMAT waiver at that time and replaced it by Interview, once you finish that then you will be receive final decision .
- I applied for Fall intake, I wanted to go there in Fall as winter is deadly in Manitoba so Inorder to let my body adapt to cold climate I chose fall intake, it took around month or month and half and I got offer letter but right now it might be more because I think you need PAL now, at my time we didn't need PAL so plan your intake carefully and right now IRCC is also taking long to process visa, my visa was approved in 15 days ,
Faculty
- Faculty to student ratio is good as we have smaller classes, professors are open and helpful and they are well respected in the community so their reference letter is quite useful, in Winnipeg everybody knows everyone and that's the best part of studying at University of Manitoba that you will build lots of connection and can use connection's of your faculty member for job, research etc,
- If I'm honest, in Canada, how hard you work and how you upskill yourself will make you a standout candidate in the job market, although whatever you learn in university will make you job-ready. At the end, getting the interview and cracking the interview solely depend on how hard you work and how much time you spend on building connections.
- Yes, professors do assist if you are looking for guidance in finding a full-time or part-time job, but again, they can only guide you; at the end, it's on you to decide how many jobs you apply to, and if one is having a good CV and is ready to network with industry professionals.
- I admire our professor Kiran Pedada most as he is a genuinely amazing person, and he is my mentor, always supportive, and he loves to build bonds with students. I'm still connected to him even after graduation. Highly recommend developing a good bond with him if you are going to study here, as he will help you with whatever you need.
Campus Life
- We 2 campus of University of Manitoba,.one in North Winnipeg and one in South, south one is the main and largest one in the province,
- University of Manitoba has all facilities, library, big active living center (it includes gym, swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court and all other sports court,
- There are many clubs and events going on all the time in university, it depends on one how many they want to take part in.
Part Time Jobs
- There are some students who have secured this, but I am not sure how many students have secured it. The pay ranges are between $16 to $20 per hour for part-time on-campus jobs. Jobs are available, as well as Starbucks, Tim Hortons, the University Library, and other stuff. You can apply there as well.
- I have no idea because I haven't applied there, so I cannot confirm the pay on campus. We don't have any hour restrictions, but outside of campus. You can work 24 hours a week but for MBA you do not get any summer break so you cannot work full time in summer. Please make sure you always work up to 24 hours. No more than that at any time.
- Most of my classmates were working for retail stores as that's the easiest place to find job to,most of these jobs pay minimum wages so it's not that high but sufficient enough to cover monthly expenses, finding part time job in current market is tough, you have to apply thousands of jobs and then you'll be able to secure one, for part time jobs there are not many steps involved, you just have to keep applying all the time untill you get one that's it.
Placement
- I don't have any of these data with accuracy, please contact university for this if they can share but based on my experience most people find job within 6 months after graduation but it depends on how hard you work, I got job offer even before my graduation so it's totally subjective, and in Canada there is no campus placement, so no companies will come to university to hire students, even during career fair, all the companies will visit university and when you talk to them, they will ask you to apply online, so you have to apply online regardless,
Accommodation
- Use Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji for private room rental, always check the location in person before transferring any money to anyone, my monthly rent is $500 for private room including furniture, utilities, internet, basically everything, but if you share it with your friends and rent an 2 BHK apartment then it could be as low as $300, I only have one recommendation find a location near university, don't go too far because winter is harsh. You wanna be as close to the university as possible.
Exams
- MBA program requires IELTS and GMAT, However GMAT can be waived based on previous GPA and interview, on top of that you will require your CV, SOP and LOR, LOR verification will be needed so your references will be contacted via email to complete reference which is good thing and will make you stand out if you have good, genuine reference from your supervisor or management team.
Fees
- Total fees for MBA program was $55,000, and $3500 for books, fees are charged credit vise and they are due each semester/term, there are 3 terms winter/summer/fall, I didn't stayed at campus hostel but if one want to stay then costing is around at $2000 per month, if you stay outside campus like me then rent is $500-$900 per month,
- You can finish MBA based on how many course/credits you take in a term, minimum you have to take as a international student to maintain full time status is 9 credit per term,
- Your monthly expenses will be around $1200 - $3000 per month including all, it highly depends how you live, some my friends who are living in sharing room and cook at home their monthly expenses is around $800-$900 including everything, for me it's around $1500 per month, Rent - $500, transportation - $300, Food and groceries -$500, phone bill - $100, miscellaneous -$100,
Scholarship
- They give entry scholarships named IGSES based on your previous education, and if you maintain GPA during MBA then you'll get IGSS scholarship in second year, there is no CAP on bow many students gets it as it's based on one's GPA, I received $11,000 in scholarship for my 2 years of MBA program, most of my classmates received similar amount but I'm not sure if they have changed the rules so please confirm it with university,
