Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • It offered me the field of area I wanted to opt for. Searching for courses for law was tough and Georgian college had the best options available for a postgraduate student. Paralegal post graduation course at Georgian college is taught by the professors who are in practice so you get all the current information and practical knowledge from them.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

  • My grade was low. Plus, I was late to get my application submitted. University admission requirements are very high; if only you had an excellent academic background, then you would be considered.
  • During my college days I never had the intention to study abroad so i never thought of having an excellent marksheet. But it is important to have good scores if you wanna get into university

Tips to enhance your application

  • A cover letter to express why you should be chosen for the course, a CV, and a good academic background. Apply on time, as seats are limited, and apply to all preferred colleges, as many have an application fee too, which is nonrefundable so keep that in mind.

Admission Experience

  • I chose this college because of its academic reputation, practical approach. Canada’s high-quality education system, along with the opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience, attracted me. The location was close to toronto which offers excellent career opportunities.
  • My experience at Georgian college was positive and knowledgeable, and the supportive campus staff and professors have been there all the time. The course equipped me with the legal skills needed in the field. Overall this was a great experience

Class Schedule

8

  • There were 7 classes each week, with each class being 3 hours long. We had 2 classes each day with breaks in between classes. Classes were held between 8 am and 9 pm. I had around 25 students.
  • There was a good number of international students, the majority of whom were from India. Outside college time I would spend at least 5-6 hours on assignments and self-study.

Faculty

9

  • The relationship with faculty was a very balanced one, with classes small enough for instructors to give individual attention.
  • Faculty members were very approachable and encouraged students to ask questions and engage in discussions. They often shared real-life experiences for better understanding. Faculty member dont help with getting job however, they do share the opportunities available and guide how to proceed with it.

Campus Life

9

  • My college is the main campus and there are several more campuses of it; i think least 7 more. The campus does have a well-stocked library, a fully equipped gym, plenty of studying areas, and a 24-hour open lounge area for students. Throughout the year the campus does host several events and activities.
  • Each georgian campus has a GSCA that's basically established by students, which runs all the events in college. It also has a food bank where students can get emergency food supply with no charge.

Part Time Jobs

  • Most Indian students prefer working part-time off campus at maybe walmart or dollarama, maybe at Starbucks or Tim Hortons. These jobs are flexible and the pay is descent, getting these jobs can be difficult, as positions are limited and people are applying for these jobs.
  • Usually students visit the place and drop off their resume; in this way they get to meet the manager too and introduce themselves, which gives them an edge above others who are applying online.
  • There are several on-campus job opportunities available in the library and fitness center and also in the GCSA. I am not sure about the pay rate but it will be at least the minimum wage. Not many are able to be considered for these positions, as they are very limited in scope.
  • Off campus, people can find jobs at restaurants, coffee shops, malls, etc. Off campus students are allowed to work only to 20 hours but in campus they can work more.

Placement

8

  • Approximately 80% of students secure jobs within 6 months of graduation depending on the program and location. The average salary of most graduates falls between $40,000 and $50,000 per year. In-demand jobs have salaries between $70,000 annually.
  • Students can find jobs on various online platforms like LinkedIn, google search, glassdoor, indeed.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I found accommodation online and also through agents. Generally, when you are searching for a place in a condo in toronto u need an agent because they do all the talking with the landlord and get your paperwork done. Challenges faced depend on the person. Many landlords are fussy so they don't entertain students.
  • I would suggest always looking for a place yourself first and negotiating on the rent. Always negotiate.
