Course Curriculum

10

  • I'd rate the difficulty for the course 7/10. it was a mix of both theoretical and practical. and it was mandatory to pass both, to clear the complete course.
  • The positive aspect of the course was that it included practicality as much as there was theory.
  • The negative aspect of the course was it was not for beginners.
  • One should have previous knowledge which we don't usually have since we went and studied it after 12th.

Admission Experience

  • I applied in 3 colleges of Toronto.
  1. It was Humber Polytechnic
  2. George Brown
  3.  Seneca.
  • I received the confirmation for admission from all three of these institutes. I applied as soon as the admission forms were out. At that time, we recently got completely out from the covid situation, so it was taking a bit longer for them to process the admission. It took 1.5 month for to me receive my first acceptance.
  • I chose Humber Polytechnic because i had heard good reviews for this institute from a lot of people. And also, because it was kind of close to the place where I was going to live.
  • The admission process was easy for me since I got good grades in my 12th and my IELTS exam. I filled in the admission form and a SOP which is majorly required by all the international institutes.
  • The eligibility criteria was to give IELTS and also good grades in 12th board. The minimum score required for IELTS was 6 bands at that time.
  • The overall admission process for me was kind of easy because I had my elder brother guiding me through it all. and to be honest, its not that much of the hustle everyone thinks of. It has simple requirements which they tell you before you start the process, so you don't get confused in the middle of the process.
  • I applied to September intake, since it helps to settle down till you reach the beginning of harsh winters in Canada.
  • For me, I applied in the end of November 2021 and received my acceptance on February 15, 2022. so for me it took approx 2.5 months to get admitted. Then they tell you to pay a certain amount of the fees to reserve your seat and then to pay the whole fee for a year.

Class Schedule

10

  • You can schedule as many classes as you want in a made. timing depends on us what we choose.
  • There were approx 35-40 students in my class.
  • Majority of the students enrolled in this course was Indian. I'd say 95% were indians.

Faculty

8

  • The faculty to student ratio was pretty good. There were enough teachers for the students.
  • The teaching methodology was good too except for some teachers who think we were born Einstein.
  • The course content for today's world is not enough to land you with a good job.
  • Each of our teachers after every semester hand out a list of online certifications that we need to do to get a good job which is hilarious since, we paid a huge amount to study and then we have to pay more to do these online certifications too.
  • Yes, the faculty used to provide us with details and used to even give references for the students who needed it.
  • The faculty that I admire the most is one professor from Sri Lanka. He used to teach us Mathematics in the first semester. He was so patient with all the students and re-explain stuff as many times as needed. He always had a positive vibe and attitude towards the students.

Campus Life

10

  • My college had 3 campuses.
  1. North Campus-Located at 205 Humber College Blvd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada M9W 5L7.
  2. Lakeshore Campus-Located at 3199 Lake Shore Blvd., W., Toronto, Ontario, Canada M8V 1K8.
  3. International Graduate School-Located at 59 Hayden Street Toronto, ON, Canada, M4Y 2P2.
  • The facilities available are:
  1. Library, gym, swimming pool, basketball courts, massage, canteen with food eating area.

Part Time Jobs

  • I don't think any of the students secured a TA, RA or a DA position.
  • The other on-campus jobs for students are to work in the Tim Hortons which is on the campus or to work with the college association which organizes events. the hourly wage used to be $16-17. The maximum work allowed was 20 hours.
  • It is difficult because the amount of students applying for them is huge.
  • Mostly students work in gas pumps, tim hortons as barista or servers in restaurants or factory work. Typically, students receive $16-17 per hour. depends on the season, if a student is going to get a job or not and on referral too.
  • The usual process is either to apply through indeed or go on your own to the places and hand out your resumes. then they check out your resume, if it suits them they call you in for an interview.

Placement

6

  • People do get employed but not in the field they studied in.
  • If all the extra online certifications are asked, a student can earn $20-21 .
  • Students ask their professors to help them out or apply through indeed and ask people for referrals.
  • For my batchmates, a minority of them might have landed in this field. mostly, everyone is doing work in the fields they didn't graduate in.

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

  • I had my brother living there already. so, I lived with him and later on, when we changed the house we took help from real estate agents.
  • The monthly rent for us was 1600$. since it was a personal basement. It just included some basic furniture such as a refrigerator, oven and microwave.
  • For future students, find a place to live before you go; harsh truth but no relative is going to keep you with them since it is extremely expensive and they wont have space for you.
  • I used to live 30 mins away from my college. Most of the students used to live nearby the college.

Exams

  • My college only required IELTS.
  • The documents needed was SOP and your school certificates to show that you are good in co-circulars to raise your admission profile and also, school report cards.
  • They also ask for a behaviour certificate and migration certificate which the school provides.
  • There was no interview involved for the admission process.

Fees

  • The breakdown of the fess is as follow:
  1. Ancillary Fees
  2. Student Union Fees
  3. Dental insurance
  4. Social Opp & events
  5. Tuition fees for labs
  6. Tuition fees for classes
  7. Tuition deposit
  • I used to live on my own so there was no hostel fees.
  • For the first year, we have to pay the whole fees. Then we can pay semester-wise.
  • Monthly expense for me, since I used to drive a car. so I had to pay its monthly payments and insurance and then gas too. so it was around $3000 for me for each month.

Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available.
  • I did not receive any scholarship.
  • I don't know if any of my batchmates received any kind of scholarships.
  • The number of students receiving scholarships each year is around 10k and the amount depends on the courses and also on the people who are offering these scholarships.
  • Some scholarships are like one time that they give to the students whereas some includes paying the whole tuition fee for the student.
