What Students Say
Likes
- The fact they had a campus in Chandigarh. The fee wasn't too bad in comparison to other Canadian institutions.
- The fact they have a Campus in Chandigarh, India. So, Indian students can start their degree in the comfort of their home and can take a transfer to the Canadian campus after the 1st year or the 2nd year. This way you save up on tuition fees and also adapt to the Canadian Education System before moving to Canada. And after you graduate, you get a degree from the University without the mention of you being in a different campus for the first two years. It's the same degree you'd get if you studied in Canada for 4 years.
Dislikes
- The professors in Abbotsford Campus are very below average. They don't focus on actual learning, but just somehow finishing the courses and moving on to the next one. Out of the 20 courses I did in Abbotsford Campus, I only learned something new in maybe 2 or 3 courses. All the other courses were absolutely a waste of time. Even in a very practical course, they'll read off of a powerpoint presentation, without teaching anything practical or useful. Even the exams were useless. I don't think I learned anything that directly translated into my professional life.
Required Exams for Admission
Overall experience was dissatisfying. I would blame some of it on COVID since, most of our classes in the last two semester were online and professors weren't used to it. But in terms of making memories, connections, friends it was good. But not so useful in terms of learning transferable skills to the professional world.
Course Curriculum
A few classes were relevant and useful. Over 70% of the classes were useless. I could have learned what they taught me in a whole semester in a week of self studying. No real industrial exposure either.
Faculty
Chandigarh campus around 30 students in a class. Teachers were good and helpful. Canadian campus, some classes even had 50+ students. Teachers were average and seldom helpful.
Campus Life
It was decent. There were a few good clubs here and there. There was WiFi at all times. The library was pretty good, with high end computers, printers etc.
Placement
Finding a placement doesn't depend on what college you went to, but how good your skills are. So, as a software developer, if you're actually good and know what you're doing. The starting salary can be anywhere between 50,000-80,000$ (per annum).
Accommodation
Average rental price in Canada when I got here in 2019 were around 500$ for a private room in a shared space. Now in 2023, it's close to 800-900$ for a private room in a shared space. If you want a whole apartment/basement for yourself. Then it's close to 1400$.
Exams
IELTS overall 7 bands (no less than 6.5 in each module) to take a transfer to Canada. 70% in CBSE boards. SOP included generic stuff like why I'd like to study in this specific college. Had a few LORs from my grade 12 teachers. and my CV had a few internships I had done in summer vacation of grade 11 and 12. (nothing too fancy). Getting selected is the Chandigarh campus is easy. No such tests or interviews. I did however send them an SOP and a few LORs. But I don't think even that was necessary.
Fees
Chandigarh campus was around 450,000INR for a year. (2 semester = 10 courses) Abbotsford Campus (Canada) was around 2000$ per course. 10,000$ per semester.
Scholarship
I did receive a scholarship for my grade 12th score. It was about 75000INR.
