What Students Say
Likes
- The courses being offered in the program I chose was something I thought I would like to learn and make progress with. It's going well for me, touchwood.
- The course structure is well-built, grading is on-point. There is a wide range of courses available from which one can choose what to pursue.
- On top of that, one is able to change the program in the middle if they are not able to continue what they chose in the first place.
Dislikes
- Like most universities in Canada, Concordia University has high tuition fees, which can be a barrier for some students, especially if you are an international student.
- Some courses are quite crowded with up to 200 students per class, making it challenging to get personalised attention from professors. Some students may find it challenging to adjust to the French-speaking environment, especially when looking for part time jobs in or around the campus.
Required Exams for Admission
Overall, I was amazed to come to a new country and get admitted to a prestigious university. I am having a great experience in and around the campus. There are several help groups available for all kinds of emergency situation. I would recommend students to try and get admission at Concordia University based on my experience with quality of education here, the campus culture, extracurricular activities, social life, and several other factors.
Course Curriculum
There were some courses that have the latest course structure, while some had completely outdated structure which would be company specific, considering some of the companies are still using those technologies. In one course, we got good industry exposure where we had to work on a client's project and create a Food Recommendation System.
Faculty
I won't be able to take any names here, but the faculty to student ratio is not that good. Usually most classes have an average of 100 students, but then again, a lot of professors put in effort to check in with each and every student.
Campus Life
There are tons of extracurricular activities that keep on happening in and around campus. I wish I had more time to indulge in some of these activities. There are several clubs for dance, music, sports etc. The Concordia Library is one of the best libraries I've ever visited. There is tons of quality content and occupancy of around 1000 people(not sure).
Placement
There are several virtual job fairs that are held regularly, where a lot of students participate and get job offers. I still haven't attended any such event, so I won't be able to give you more insight on that.
Accommodation
It completely depends on the way you are able to manage your finances, but still, to give a broader idea, for a private house you'll be paying atleast 1100 CAD per month as rent, 600 for a private room, and 300-400 for a shared room. All these prices are for downtown area near the university. The prices reduces if you live a little far from downtown.
Exams
I just took IELTS exam with the score: Overall 7 (L-8, R-6.5, W-6.5, S-7.5). GRE scores were also asked but were not mandatory to submit. I had to submit 1 SOP, and 3 LORs from my undergrad university, and my resume. I believe that SOP and LORs play a major role in your application getting reviewed. Make sure to be very concise while writing your SOP. Try to express extraordinarily and take professional help if required. Try not to go beyond 2 pages.
Fees
It keeps on changing due to inflation, but for me it was around 32000 CAD for the whole program. As a note, I had to pay 25k before my first semester due to visa requirements.
