The assignments would be more of case studies which are like real-world problems and through discussions and brainstorming we are supposed to find the solution. About the course structure, it is divided into a lecture of 2 hrs and 1-hour tutorial where the class is divided into a small group and the lecture content is discussed.

It is up to date is what I would say and they keep an eye on the industry updates too. We have internships and capstone subjects which is optional but it gives a lot more exposure.

  • While there's a lot to appreciate about the University of Melbourne, there are a few areas that could be improved. One aspect is the high cost of living and tuition, which can be a significant burden for many students. Additionally, the academic workload is sometimes overwhelming, which can affect work-life balance, especially for those also handling part-time jobs or extracurricular activities. Another issue is that some administrative processes can be slow or bureaucratic, which can be frustrating when trying to resolve issues quickly. Lastly, while the university offers many resources, navigating them can be challenging for new students, who might struggle to find the right support at the right time. null

Since I'm still in my first semester, my experience with the course curriculum and academics at the University of Melbourne has been quite positive so far. The syllabus for the Master of Information Systems feels updated and relevant, incorporating the latest trends and technologies in the field. While I haven't had extensive industrial exposure or research experience just yet, the program structure does promise practical learning opportunities and interactions with industry professionals through various modules. This approach ensures that we, as students, are not only academically prepared but also industry-ready by the time we graduate.

Dislikes:

  • I dislike the fact that a students has to be an over achieving student to receive any honorary awards or scholarships. I personally feel it to be a tedious task as I work part time and study, so I find it difficult to excel in all aspects of university such as grades and extracurricular activities .

Dislikes:

  • University life in Australia can get quiet isolating given the divide between domestic and international students. I found the lack of sense of belonging to the most promising challenge. Moreover, the curriculum is structured to emphasizes independence and self-reliance, which can pose a significant challenge for students coming from diverse educational backgrounds. null

As per the study experience is concerned, it was one of the best that I have ever seen. There is study pressure because the approach to study or the way we are taught here is poles apart from what we are taught back in India. Back in India, we do get a lot of spoon feeding like you have your tuition material, you have a lot of easy material to digest basically and over here, 99% of it is self taught. You have to be on top of the things from the very first week.
