Campus Life

  • Around 7 campuses my college has, but St. Lucia is the main one.
  • Available facilities: library, sports, and medical—around 6 libraries in our main campus and way too many sports facilities, as well as a good and easily accessible medical facility.
  • All festivals of all cultures are celebrated and almost every day something is happening on campus. Best, in my opinion, is market day, where all clubs set up their display and show what happens in the clubs

  • Search methods: Online platforms, agents—online platforms mostly.
  • Challenges faced: A friend in Brisbane arranged accommodation prior to my arrival so it was easy for me.
  • Any recommendation: live in student accommodation for 1 sem, then make a friend group and shift to an apartment afterwards; it is way cheaper.

Online platforms, such as flat mates, Facebook marketplace delayed in getting proper accommodation. Shared houses are often hard to decide. It is always good to have a look at hive and flat mates rather than student accommodations as unilodge or scape.

I live in shared house. It is easy to find shared houses. Don't worry almost all PhD students live in shared accommodations/ apartments. University residence is costlier and closes for a few months although living and food are excellent.

project coincided with my experience. It is always about the project. Although my university ranking and department raking is very good but is was always the project for me.

There are plenty of student residences on campus; however, they are expensive. But, there are other private student accommodation providers around the campus which are quite affordable.

I wanted to study International Relations or Conflict Studies and this university provided me with both degrees. Hence, I chose Peace & Conflict Studies. Moreover, UQ ranks in the top 50 universities in the world, and the course fees were quite affordable.

I decided to live off-campus and in an apartment primarily due to costs. Although living on campus would be amazing, for my first year of university I have house shared to minimize upfront costs and save some money.

At the end of year 11, I attended a young scholars program through the University of Queensland. This introduced me to many different areas of study available at the university and I had my heart set on attending it. It is one of the highest-ranked universities in Australia, therefore I wanted to work hard to be accepted and see it as an achievement. I got an OP1 and was able to make it into my course.

I live on campus where accommodation is affordable and meals are provided. There is also a stack of events run for people who live on campus and there are on campus facilities such as the library which is open 24 hours, a doctor, gym, pool, psychologists, and security.

I applied for this university because it offered the best animal science course on this side of Australia and had international accreditation. I knew about UQ because it is a popular university for students. The university was my top 4 preferences when I applied through QTAC, I received the highest possible grade upon graduating and therefore was guaranteed to get into my course. The fees for my application were relatively small. Once I received my offer it was extremely easy to accept and the University provided clear instructions on how to set up my university account. They were also available to call.

Luckily I live near the campus so I can live at home however many people live on campus and say they love it and get 3 meals a day included and snacks! The only challenge I face is that I have to travel for 45 minutes some days only to be a uni for an hour which can be frustrating but worth it as I am not financially capable of moving out.

The University of Queensland is the most prestigious university in my area and is also the only university offering languages within my course which was essential for me as I was wanting to do French. I applied for 3 different universities as there are 3 main universities in my area however the university of Queensland was my preferred one.
