Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • Honestly for me, it was all about choosing the best college I could get anywhere (in terms of ranking).
  • But for the people reading this, remember that ranking has close to no value, and people don't even really know about the rankings.
  • A major reason UWA can be a better option than other colleges: Perth is a regional city; you get extra PR points for studying anywhere in regional areas.
  • Cheaper than Sydney (at par with Melbourne nowadays) Part of prestigious Go8.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

  • I got into all the colleges I applied for; I chose 1 university in all major cities and applied their.
  • Being from a good university and good degree (I had honours in AIML with a BTech in CS) definitely matters.

Tips to enhance your application

  • Nothing really; its very easy to get in. I casually applied and got in.
  • People generally get rejected in the visa process, which can be tedious, but if you show you are legit student, who has good reasons to be here, then they give you the visa easily.
  • I got it within a day from what I remember.

Admission Experience

  • Amongst all English-speaking countries, Australia is by far the best country to go to; you get to stay 3 years after your degree too, so you have 3 years to find a job, which should be more than enough.
  • Experience has been pretty good.
  • Its definitely much easier than India. People are really nice.
  • I have lived in multiple countries throughout my life, and Australians are definitely the most polite and nice people, on par with New Zealanders.

Class Schedule

6

  • 4 classes a week and 4 labs. You always get multiple options for lab slots, so you can choose time: 100 per class, 15 per lab, probably.
  • 60% are Indians; if you are a good student, the Australian curriculum is very easy.
  • But remember, if you fail here, you have to do the entire unit again, so you have to pay 5400 dollars every time you fail.

Faculty

8

  • Approachability is good, despite the skewed ratio.
  • They have dedicated consultation hours; nobody even shows up.
  • Faculties would not help with jobs unless you have worked under them for a long time.
  • All faculties are pretty much similar to be honest and keep changes every semester too.

Campus Life

9

  • There are endless number of activities in any Australian Universities Its all student-controlled too, so its in your hand what you really want.
  • There are like 100 clubs I have volunteered in different places of Australia, I am also one of the top 7 volunteers in my University, having gone on multiple camping trips to rural areas to volunteer as a teacher.

Part Time Jobs

  • Indians are normally Uber drivers or work at 7-Eleven or McDonald's. Pretty easy to get; just apply online.
  • There is no preference as such; people work wherever they get a chance to work. Normally people even have multiple jobs. I work as a private tutor myself, teaching AI and computer science, and my hourly rate is 120/hr, but getting such a gig requires a lot of skills and a strong resume.
  • On-campus jobs are rare, but outside campus there are plenty of jobs. you can work 40 hrs biweekly (sometimes its 48, visa rules changes from time to time).
  • Minimum wage is around 24 but almost all jobs pay 32, no matter how tough or easy the job is. This is probably the best thing about Australia: everyone earns a lot without actually needing lots of skills.

Placement

2

  • Almost no Indian gets a job within 6 months; most of them take 1-2 years to finally land a job.
  • The average salary is around 80k per year for people who do get it.
  • The gap between the salaries is not that much; round about every job and company gives somewhat the same salary, ranging from 70 to 120k. Everybody applies online.

Accommodation

Off Campus
5

  • You can either rent a house/room somewhere just like in India or live in a student accommodation that is not part of the university.
  • Finding a house is the toughest thing in Australia, though.
  • The only tip would be to go somewhere where you already know a few people who live there, so that you can get some immediate help in getting accommodation.
