What Students Say
Likes
- UWA is one of the G8 universities in Australia, as well as it is recognized in the world. The location, Perth is very nice place to live as well as it's easier to get work visa and PR.
- But the most important reason of all is that my elder brother was already here before I came so more of a reason to pick Perth.
- The vast array of different facilities they provide from personal care to personal development. You will get food all throughout the campus. They have good medical clinic and pharmacy within the campus.
Dislikes
- It gets expensive. For all the facilities they provide they also charge a large amount of money to keep supporting them. Even any food that you will buy would be more expensive than the food you would get anywhere outside UWA.
Required Exams for Admission
Overall experience is good enough. I feel industry ready and have confident that I will get hired soon after graduation. I had much fun studying here and still having it. As a person I grew more presentable, more professional.
Course Curriculum
The way UWA teaches any subject is by focusing more on the practical aspects; theory is very simple and often not given much importance. The curriculum is updated to suit the industrial needs of WA, Australia and the whole of Australia in general. Within the unit they would often invite guest lectures who would talk about the current industry. But the most bang for the buck aspect is that there is one unit within the curriculum where students form a group, reach out to companies relevant to their course work and receive projects from them. This way they get very well exposed for few months on how the industry actually works and what aspects are relevant.
Faculty
There are enough faculties here, some very passionate teachers. One for each unit at least. The number of students in the class will depend on the popularity of the unit or the course requirements. They are all generally very approachable, they help students not only in study but also give career advice. Especially Dr. Caren Han who taught Natural Language Processing, has left a deep impact regarding her huge passion for teaching, her vast knowledge on the subject and how much effort she puts to ensure that the students have not only learned but also developed an interest on the subject.
Campus Life
The campus life can be very peaceful and then it can get very very fun and enjoyable. There are loads of clubs for the student, not only to relieve stress but also to engage intensely into some activity. There is always something happening from small events to a large University Orientation day. The research facilities are very adequate, they ensure no stones unturned when it comes to researchers being able to work with much involvement. They have libraries with lots of different facilities for a student to keep well cared for. Wifi is always there though mostly within buildings and not much outside. The sports facilities are also very adequate, ranging from different sports activities that one can join into or just simply go to a well equipped gym if you wish to: you are covered from every angle. Overall the facilities they provide (though expensive) are enough and adequate.
Placement
Unlike in India where the companies come to the campus directly to hire students, such notion is not followed in Australia. The entire process of getting a job is done off campus. Surely companies will visit the campus through networking events where you can directly speak to the employees, get tips on how to prepare yourself or even impress them enough that they refer you for hire.
Accommodation
The university provide their own hostel accommodation which are quite expensive. They also provide off-campus accommodation which are comparatively cheaper. Of course there are rents available al around Perth. But students can also opt for private hostel accommodations like Campus Perth, Boulevard or Switch. Siting specific rental amount will be difficult as they are ever changing based on the demands. You can easily checkout the rental price by going to different websites of them.
Exams
My scores: IELTS 7.0; Class minimum score: IELTS 6.5 I did not take any other test. I took the support of IDP where I only needed to submit SOP, documents describing my family's financial background (if you are taking loan then show that), documents describing education background and all other documents for the Visa. There were only sessions where I spoke to UWA representatives regarding the courses they provide and different questions to get a better idea of how UWA is.
Fees
AUD 80,000/- for my 2 years in Masters in Information Technology. Tuition fees are paid per semester, which increases by some amount every year.
