- I came across this University co-incidentally when I was looking for courses in Systems Engineering and as it was one of the few universities to provide the course, I applied for it. Also, I was primarily looking in Australia and I was keen to pursue my Masters here.
- Coming from a different country, I think it’s most important for a foreign student to feel welcomed and the University was not short of that. I loved the University environment. The supportive staff and professors and the quality of education.
Dislikes
- There weren’t many scholarship opportunities at the time and the fees could be lowered or making a provision for international students to work to pay some portion of the student fees. Not much support in terms of part-time jobs or even work after graduation.
It was a fulfilling experience studying at UNSW and I would recommend this university to anyone looking to pursue further education. It is an experience that really makes you grow and provides a good exposure.
Course Curriculum
The school of engineering at UNSW is one of the best in the world. The curriculum was concise but not very core intensive, and was mostly theoretical. There was a choice to take up research project in the final which was great.
Exams
The University is in Australia and so the requirements were only a decent score in an English Language test. I believe the requirement was an overall 8 in IELTS. We had to submit a latest CV demonstrating our work experience and projects, a Statement of Purpose along with a Letter of Reference.
Placement
It’s a long and tough process in all honesty. At least two year back there were limited opportunities and you would need a reference to get your foot in. The job market is much better now. The median salary for a graduate would range from AUD 60000 to AUD 70000.
Fees
AUD 90000.
Scholarship
No, I had applied for one but unfortunately couldn’t secure it.
Faculty
Extremely approachable faculty and some of the best in the industry. Most of the faculty have an ongoing research work and some of them have even worked in the industry for several years.
Campus Life
There is dedicated club to organize events, extracurricular activities. It is a strong student support system and they really brings the campus alive! Yes, there are sport facilities on campus, and libraries, study zones and of course WiFi.
Hostel
Sydney is expensive in terms of accommodation. There are number of options around the University and it is better and cheaper than staying on campus.
