Course Curriculum

10

  • The course is up to date with the industry and research market
  • Industrial training is compulsory in the course, and research experience is open to your choice, how you want to do it
  • The class schedule is up to your choice; every course has certain fixed days of lectures, out of which you can choose which one you want
  • The average number of students is 40, but the students are not fixed every class, you fill new people as there is no class system

Admission Experience

  • The sole purpose of choosing UNSW for me was the design of the curriculum in my course. The research focus of UNSW is very refined and motivates young minds to think out of the box and question everything.
  • UNSW is one of the foundational universities for engineering in Australia, dating back to the 90s era.
  • The admission process is simple, and choosing and enrolling in the courses is very good, so you can design your own term based on the credit limits.
  • You require IELTS (my score was 7.5 overall) and financial documents to support a visa

Faculty

10

  • The faculty is really good and helpful, easily approachable. All the faculty release their course content and timelines beforehand, which you can check; the whole system is online-based through Moodle. If you have any issue you can contact the faculty with them, and they guide you.

Campus Life

8

  • The Kensington campus is really good, with well-built architecture, lively, and all the facilities are well provided. Almost every day, some event is happening on the campus that you can attend. You can check the event information on the UNSW website and Eventbrite.
  • There are a lot of libraries distributed across the campus and study rooms, along with meeting rooms and conference rooms, which you can book online for free.

Part Time Jobs

  • There are a lot of part-time job opportunities in part time for students. The average pay depends on the type of work, but as per the minimum wage law, the minimum pay is 25 AUD per hour. The job application can be done through Seek, Indeed, Gumtree, and facebook group for job requirements. The maximum hours of work that are allowed as per the student visa are 48 hoursa fortnight.
  • The campus part time job are difficult to acquire but not impossible, and it usually depends on the availability as well. TA can be aqcuired but you need to maintain a High distinction in that particular course, which is more than 85%, and also depends on the course convenor whether there is a requirement or not. RA and DA positions do not exist in the Australian education system.

Placement

6

  • The job market for biomedical engineering is niche, and it depends on the student's forte, which category of job you can acquire. The overall job market for biomedical engineering in Australia is low, as major companies over here in healthcare are marketing and testing-based.
  • The jobs that you can apply for in healthcare over here are in hospitals, where you can work as a clinical specialist or a field engineer
  • The average salary in this profession is 50k to 75k annually
  • The job acquisition can be done through LinkedIn, Seek, Indeed, Gumtree

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

  • The accommodation facility through UNSW is provided, but it depends on the student's budget and preference. The student rental is much more costly on campus than off campus. You can look for rentals through realstate.au, domain. au, and through Facebook groups and marketplace.
  • Beware of the scams, as there are a lot of scams that go with the international students, so do not proceed without doing proper inspections and contract reading. The average rent in a shared room is 200 AUD to 300 AUD, depending on the location of the property and how far it is from the main city

Exams

  • IELTS
  • No other documents are required, but the admission process requirements change every time, which you can check on the UNSW admission website.

Fees

  • Fees per unit are 1210 AUD, which increases with time (you can check it on the fees portal for UNSW as per the course). Every subject is a 6-credit subject, and you have to take a minimum of 18 credits per term as per your student visa conditions.
  • UNSW is a trimester system, and the fees depend on the credits selected. The biomedical engineering master's course (8621) is a 96-credit course, and the estimated fees as of 2025 are 121000 AUD
