Assam HS 12th Passing Marks 2026

The Assam Higher Secondary Final Year 2026 exams were conducted by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) from 11th February 2026 to 16th March 2026. The results were declared on 28th April, 2026.

• To pass the Assam HS 12th Examination, students must secure 30% of the total marks for theory subjects, with no practical parts.
• For subjects with practical/project components, students must secure 30% in the total marks allocated to the theory part and 40% of the marks allocated to the practical/project components.
• The aggregate score is calculated by taking English, MIL/Alternative English, and the best of three electives.
• This year, science emerged with the highest pass percentage of 89.79%; however, the overall pass percentage dipped to 81.54%.
• The commerce stream recorded a passing percentage of 81.13%, outperforming arts, which stood at 79.54%.

Note:

• A student must pass the theory and practical parts separately.
• In case of a student with four elective subjects, the best of three subjects shall be taken into account for determining pass, rank, and division, distinction, and star marks.

Assam HS 12th Passing Criteria 2026

The following are certain criteria to keep in mind regarding passing the Assam HS 12th Examination 2026.

• The student must appear in six subjects, and the result will be declared as PASS only if the student secures 33% of the aggregate marks, even if he/she fails in one subject. However, passing in English and MIL/Alt. Eng. is compulsory.
• ASSEB Div-II will award subject-wise grades to the candidates in H S Final Examinations from the academic year 2026-27, along with the marks secured by them in each subject.
• In skill-based subject(s), the ratio of practical and theoretical parts included will be in the ratio of 50:50.
• In case of Physically Handicapped students (CWSN), passing either in English or MIL/Alt. Eng. and the remaining 4 elective subjects are compulsory as per the Board's passing criteria to get the passing certificate.

Assam HS Final Year Examination Division System 2026

In accordance with the aggregate percentage secured by students in the Assam HS 12th Examination, they are placed in different divisions overall.

Note: A student securing 80% or more marks in a particular subject will be declared to have secured “Distinction” in that subject.

Assam HS 12th Subject-Wise Passing Marks 2026

The Examination comprises five main subjects and a sixth optional subject, with two compulsory subjects - English and Modern Indian Language (MIL)/Alt Eng. Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, among others, are some of the subjects offered under MIL. There is also a range of stream-based elective subjects in the Assam HS 12th Examination.

• For subjects with theory and practical/project components, failing in either component will mark the student as failed in the subject.
• Passing marks differ for subjects, with some having 30 as the minimum passing marks and others with 24 or 21, depending on the marks distribution, with the practical/project component for the concerned subjects.

• There was a significant dip in overall pass percentage from 2024 to 2026, despite a considerable increase in the total number of students who took the exam in subsequent years.
• Science pass percentage shows a massive rebound in 2026 compared to the past year, and remains the highest performing stream.
• Both commerce and arts show a downward trend in performance, with commerce consistently outperforming arts.
• A wide performance gap exists between Science and the other streams in 2026, indicating stream-wise imbalance in results.
