• The branch ranked above yours in your preference list has closed consistently at a rank 1,000 or more better than yours in previous rounds — further floating is very unlikely to produce a result.
• You are in the final upgrade round of regular counselling — floating after this round moves you into a mop-up or special round where seat availability is limited and less predictable.
• You need to confirm accommodation, travel, or relocation plans and a last-minute seat change would be disruptive or impossible to manage.
• You already received an upgrade via Float in an earlier round and the new seat satisfies you fully.

Freeze is irreversible within that round. Once you confirm Freeze, you will not be considered in any subsequent upgrade round even if seats in higher preferences open up later. Time your Freeze to your satisfaction level with the current seat, not to the round number alone.

How to Submit Your Choice on the JAC Chandigarh Portal

After each round result is published, the decision window is open for a fixed period — typically 24 to 48 hours. Submit your choice as early as possible to avoid last-hour portal congestion.

1. Open jacchd.admissions.nic.in and click Applicant Login.
2. Log in with your Application Number and password or date of birth.
3. Go to the Seat Allotment section to view your allotted branch, institute, and category details.

Students who paid the seat acceptance fee in a previous round and are now floating to a new allotment do not typically need to repay. Always check the round-specific instructions published on the portal, as fee rules can differ between rounds.
