Tumkur University Grading System and SGPA Calculation

The PG CBCS regulations were notified on February 21, 2026. They set the pass mark at 40 percent per course. Internal assessment has no separate minimum. The table links percentage, CGPA, grade and class.

Percentage of Total Marks CGPA Grade and Class
75 and above 7.5 to 10 A+, First Class with Distinction
60 to below 75 6.0 to below 7.5 A, First Class
50 to below 60 5.0 to below 6.0 B, Second Class
40 to below 50 4.0 to below 5.0 C, Pass Class
Below 40 Below 4.0 F, Fail

How SGPA and CGPA Are Calculated?

Grade point is marks secured divided by maximum marks, times 10. Credit point equals grade point multiplied by the course credits. SGPA is total credit points divided by total credits in that semester.

Example: A student scores 72 out of 100 in a 4-credit course. The grade point is 7.2 and the credit point is 28.8.

SGPA appears only when a student clears every course of that semester. CGPA appears only after the student passes all semesters.

How to Apply for Revaluation and Challenge Valuation After the Result?

UG students first apply for an answer script photocopy on UUCMS. After seeing the copy, they apply for revaluation on UUCMS. They then give the application details to their college the same day.

The college principal sends the final list to the Registrar (Evaluation). PG students do not get a photocopy. They apply for challenge valuation through UUCMS and their department.

Service Who Can Apply Fee
Photocopy of answer script UG students Rs. 210 per subject
Revaluation UG students Rs. 260 per subject
Challenge valuation PG students Rs. 1,310 per paper

Students need at least 15 percent of maximum marks in that paper. Practicals, viva, internal assessment and project work have no revaluation.

How the Revised Marks Are Fixed?

A gap below 15 percent between valuations keeps the higher mark. A bigger gap sends the script to a third examiner. Then the average of the two closest marks becomes final.

Important: Marks can go down after revaluation. In PG challenge valuation, the new mark is final.
