- I love that they have various daily events for students to stay engaged. I know for some it’s hard, the transition from high school or transition into a new state/country. Many students feel alone so it’s nice to be included in things that are free even if you don’t have any friends yet.
Dislikes
- The only thing I dislike about the campus is that there are some hills and a few tutors who aren’t helpful (very few) but you can always go to a different tutor if you don’t like the one you met with.
Course Curriculum
Every professor has their own syllabus and makes corrections/updates as needed. Yes, most science-related courses have a lab to take with them, exposing us to the industrial and research experience we will need in our 3rd and 4th years of college. We will need it as we take a field course over the summer and go out of state to do research and industrial works.
Fees
My cost is a bit over $28,000 per year, however, living on or off campus can affect your cost along with the selection of our meal plans and the classes you are taking. We also have a “Bearkat Bundle” where you pay about $350 ish for all your textbooks for the semester. It is very helpful if you are taking a lot of classes in the fall and spring semesters. Summer semester is about half the cost for the bundle.
Geologists study rocks, of course, but they study them from the context of providing information that may eventually be used to forecast earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other geological hazards. The information obtained may also be applied to help geologists locate various natural resources. Therefore, geology serves to enhance human existence by attempting to reduce risk and by providing the materials necessary for the expansion of civilization.
The department places considerable emphasis on the integration of lab-based analytical science with similarly rigorous analysis conducted by means of field work. In support, the department maintains a range of field and laboratory equipment including a Mackereth coring system, a vibracorer, a research flume, a portable XRF, plus a variety of GPS and GIS-linked surveying equipment. Many of our students obtain internships and work with faculty members on research projects.
