B.S Environmental Science from Rice University Overview

The Environmental Science program at the Wiess School of Natural Sciences is a four-year interdisciplinary degree that examines the complex relationships between humans and the natural environment. Offering both BA and BS degrees, the program allows students to choose a concentration in either Earth Science or Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, with the flexibility to switch concentrations due to a shared core curriculum. With a minimum of 120 credit hours required for graduation, students pursuing the BS must complete 26–29 courses (76–82 credit hours), including upper-level coursework, a capstone senior seminar, and an advanced field or research experience. The curriculum integrates scientific knowledge with social, cultural, and policy perspectives to equip students with the critical, integrative thinking skills needed to address modern environmental challenges. International applicants must meet English proficiency requirements and submit transcripts, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose through Uni-Assist with an $85 application fee. Rice University accepts almost all English proficiency exams, such as IELTS,TOEFL and PTE for international students admission. Indian students with excellent scores are eligible for the Merit Scholarships.
