U.S. News & World Report ranks MSU as having the No. 12 undergraduate program in accounting in the nation. The program is Michigan's largest educator of certified public accountants and is endorsed by the Institute of Management Accountants.

Accounting prepares students for careers in public accounting, managerial accounting, and governmental accounting. The public accountant is involved in auditing, in planning, and in providing specialized advice on business problems. The managerial accountant is responsible for generating the information needed to plan and control a company’s operations. Local, state, and federal government agencies offer opportunities in governmental accounting.

The Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, is home to one of the nation’s top accounting programs. For over 50 years, the Department of Accounting and Information Systems has been attracting bright, ambitious students and has been the state’s largest provider of certified public accountants (CPAs). Our undergraduate and graduate accounting degree programs are consistently ranked in the top ten by the Public Accounting Report, one of the lead trade publications for the accounting profession. Our programs afford you the opportunity to access world-class faculty and facilities while learning in a challenging and diverse community of scholars.
