Course Curriculum

10

  • It was a mix depending upon the subjects I chose; the professor and his respective teaching methods play the key role in deciding whether it's going to be theoretical or practical but for me most of the subjects were always a mix . It is usually one or two subjects per day, and all my classes were in the daytime, very flexible and safe
  • Positive were it had flexible grading which is divided amongst assignments, attendance, quizzes and projects with exams depending on the profess Which makes it easy to score. Negative would be that it can be attend online which everyone usually does which might not be an affective way of learning
  • Average no of students would be 45 students per class Ahh, if it was a bachelors plus masters course I could see a mix of people but in regular classes most of the students were Indian 90%

Admission Experience

  • My admission process went very smoothly, I paid my application fee, and within 25 days I got accepted to this university. I chose FAU because I've heard a lot of research opportunities here, and the professors were too talented. Apart from having a vast campus with lots of on-campus opportunities and huge ties with the IT field in that city and Florida has so many IT hubs- Tampa and Miami being the nearest places which would help in post-master's job opportunities.
  • FAU accepts IELTS, which is the only required test score that I submitted. GRE was not mandatory, and I never took that test. I had a GPA of 3.3 in my bachelor's and little internship experience, which landed me safely at FAU
  • Very few:University of North Texas - I got rejected because of humongous amount of applications they wanted to defer me for the next semester. But yeah got rejected

DePaul - accepted but I diddnt want to go because it might be too expensive and they diddnt have a vast campus, which led to minute on campus opportunities, and that could be difficult for me
New Haven - rejected, but I don't know why, maybe they wanted a strong profile with a great score and activities
University of Alabama at Birmingham- accepted, but the fee was too high and in addition they wanted me to do prerequisite courses, which would charge me even more
So finally, I chose Florida Atlantic University, which I still feel was the best choice

  • I applied to the Spring 2024 intake. My admission timeline matched that semester after my internship post bachelors so I had to choose spring, but I would definitely suggest everyone to go for fall Intake because it could generate greater internships and full time opportunities .The admission process took place within a 3-month period, which included me submitting my test scores, applying and also receiving acceptance which lead to visa application

Faculty

  • Fau bears a good faculty to student ratio which would help in preventing crowded classrooms. I would say the teacher to student ratio is almost 6:10 and it was great and they interact very well if you attend the classes regularly and help us in building better relationships .Yes it is sufficient because they do a-lot of practical approach too. Which would help in understanding concepts industry based.
  • Yes professors do assist in full time opportunities if you get well with them and be supportive.
  • Behnaaz Ghorani mam was my deep learning professor and she made me solve a 3 page problem effortlessly using maths equations and that is a kind of a proud moment for me and I was awestruck when I listen to her.

Campus Life

8

  • I had a great time being a chief member at arrival to thrival and cultural coding club which help my peers to understand the cocnepts even more, firther more we also conducted several cultural festivals like Ugadi, dussehra nd diwali with traditional pooja, food and music.
  • Yes we do have a huge library with so much space and facilities, sports, yes, we have basketball and football and many other activities and a huge block containing medical services which is included in the insurance part.
  • We have several clubs including the ISS Club, arrival to thrival club, pace club seveal international student organisations and they were so much fun to participate

Part Time Jobs

  • As I said previously we have a huge scope for TAs and RAs, which would waive your fee 90% and also provide employment of 20$/ hour which is very much decent to this role.Other on campus would be working in library or food departments and dining services and the pay rang would be 14$ / hr. Only 20 hrs is allowed legally and during summer breaks we can do 40 hrs. If you have and maintain a good circle a small recommendation would be helpful in applying on campus jobs. Some people also rely on using handshake and other apps to enroll for the application
  • On an hourly basis, that would be enough for you to survive, waive your fee and also get income that is sufficient for you to cover the rent and other groceries. It is easy to secure part-time employment while studying you can manage it easily no tension. We can use handshake to apply for on-campus jobs but also try offlime with your friends' recommendations, and also talk well with your professors.

Placement

  •  I guess almost 60% would get jobs and few of them are using consulting firm but mostly we have a lot it companies around Boca Raton and they can provide good opportunities for us. 85000-11000 is the average salary any student can expect after getting a full time job job and it can grow in a much better way.
  •  Best method is browsing and applying constantly on linkedIn, Indeed, Handshake, ZipRecruiter and attending job fairs and career fairs. I myself got an internship offer in boca at an insurance company and had a great time there, they also offered me full time opportunity later after my graduation depending up on the roles and budget.
  • Major companies such as Delta Airways, Amazon and other companies do hire people from my university.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I used telegram and whatsapp groups to search for accommodation and got some leads from there and then I spoke about more details and got off campus accommodation .My monthly rent was 350$ and extra on water and electricity and groceries it in general included only maintenance, just to find good roommates, and make sure to get a lease where international students are allowed to take the lease and see the leasing agreement thoroughly before jumping in and signing it.
  • Future recommendations would be always choose good over bad and quality over quantity that would change your life as a student and know the limits dont cross or let them cross.

Exams

  • IELTS is a mandatory need in the admissions process “, you can skip gre, it is not much needed if you have any kind of math or statistics included in your bachelors curriculum.
  • Necessary documents would be getting LOR’s from your professors, generating a very well written statement of purpose.  CV or Resume is of course, a mandatory need. No interview was not a part of the admission but I had visa interview post admission which included- my intro, why did I Select FAU, and why would I select  this particular stream Data Science and Analytics , later asked me about the subjects, my funding and what my father dos all these questions were part of the interview.

Fees

  • Semester wise 10,000$ and last semester only 4000$ it is credit based, and depends on the curriculum, it varies from course to course. On my i20 including the house expenses it was quoted as 45000$ as the complete charges but if you live off campus it is more affordable. I live off campus with my friends and it is 350$ for the house rent and it would be extra 200 $ on the utilities and groceries, transportation if free from where i live- sanmarco apartments boca to fau.

Scholarship

  • No one received and kind of scholarships in my friends circle, but many of my friends got the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant in later semesters which waived off 90% of the semester fee, I almost got the opportunity but I had to loose it because of an internship offer but yeah it depends on the goal you are aiming at. It is way easier to get teaching or research assistantships if you work a little hard in your starting semester it will set tone to your future.
