- The U.S. offers top-tier education, and Michigan Tech's ranking, research, and career support stood out. Houghton's focused environment, vibrant student life, and supportive community made my experience enriching.
Class Schedule
- Coming to classes, they usually run 3-4 times a week, with timings ranging from morning to evening. Class sizes vary, averaging 30-50 students, with a smaller number of Indians. Apart from classes, 3-4 hours daily go into assignments and self-study. The schedule is flexible but required strong time management.
Faculty
- The faculty at Michigan Tech is knowledgeable and approachable, with a good student-to-faculty ratio ensuring personalized attention.
- Some professors stand out for their industry experience and research guidance. While they don't directly offer jobs, their references and network help in securing part-time and full-time roles.
Campus Life
- We only have one huge campus in Houghton, but we do have different research centers across Michigan. Yes, we do have an entire recreation center for sports, which is just one mile away from campus. We have many sports clubs, universities, as well as local town festivals, especially during winter with snow as well as summer.
Part Time Jobs
- Either as a teaching assistant, grading assistant or research assistant; other than that, roles like proctoring and graduate assistant. All the part times across the campus are pretty easy to get. Usually, we apply to these part-time jobs using the Handshake app, referrals from professors work, or reaching out to the respective department with a resume.
- Usually, every six out of ten students get teaching assistant, grader or research assistant part-time roles in their respective departments. We have two different dining services too, offering many part-times for graduate and undergraduate students. Other part times include testing centres and administrative work related.
Placement
- Michigan Tech is known for mechanical and mechatronics departments; usually these departments are good at securing jobs within six months of their graduation.
- Salary depends upon departments and states they get into in the USA. Michigan Tech has a career fair going on every semester where various companies across Michigan as well as other states come and interact with tech students.
