What Students Say
Likes
- I like the way of teaching by the professors (Classes have advanced teaching systems).
- Cleaniness everywhere in the campus (most at all the times).
- I like the support from international center(they respond very quickly).
Dislikes
- I dont like one thing about the college is, when coming to the jobs, there are more federal jobs available for the citizens than those for International students (Its common in USA as they give first preference to the people who live here).
- The college timings (6:30 PM-9:15 PM in most of the courses that I am having).
- Limited Part time work inside the college (Hard to get for international students).
Course Curriculum
- The course curriculum is all about the mix of theoretical and practical learning. You learn more by interacting in class. The best thing I like is that Americans in the class will straight away stand up or raise their hands and be clear of their doubts at that point in time.
- Some courses have too much theory, which is really boring and some have really interesting topics for which one has to give presentations to the class.
- The good thing about Rowan is that they have a huge number of Americans (instate) than the out-of-state/international students.
Admission Experience
-
I have been accepted in every college that I have applied to.
I got admissions from
1. Rowan University.
2. University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
3. Florida Institute of Technology.
4. Fairleigh Dickinson University.
5. Missouri University of Science and Technology.
6. New Jersey Institute of Technology.
There are no rejections in my applied colleges but from New Jersey Institute of technology has offered me a alternate pathway to Masters in Computer science. I think as I am from Electronics and communications background, they might want me to complete the alternate certification instead and then to Masters in Computer science. - I have seen the course curriculam and compared my course curriculum with all the Universities that I applied to. I feel Rowan University has direct Masters in Cybersecurity, but all the others has Cyberseucirty but they are much focused on Computerscience related subjects.
- Process is same for all the colleges, I have taken GRE (313), TOEFL(92) and submitted officially from testing center to Rowan Univeristy. And have taken LORS from the professors in my Undergraduate college (SVCE, Bangalore) and submitted to Rowan Univeristy. Also submitted the certificates (10th, 12th, Undergradution 8 sems certificates, PDC, Bachelors Completion Certificate).
- There are no challenges in the admission process, but I feel it takes lot of time for the international centers in each college to process the admission in timely manner( I got all the admissions in 12-20 days after applying to them.
-
1. I have applied for Fall 2024 intake.
2. I have started my process in March 2023. I have started preparing and given my GRE and scored 313 in that.
3. In June 12th, 2023 I have given my TOEFL and scored 92.
4. After that I started applying for colleges from June-July 2023.
5. I got my admissions by end of July.
6. Applied for I20 from Rowan Univeristy. I got I20 in september 2023 for Spring 2024
6. Actually I have applied for Spring 2024 intake and deferred my admission to fall 2024 as I got a good job oppurtunity in Delhi.
7. After deferring my admission to Fall 2024, finally on June 19th I myself booked my Visa slots Biometrics in Delhi ( As I am in Delhi) and Visa Interview in Chennai.
8. Finally completed all the process by July 18th with my Visa Interview scheduled on that day.
Class Schedule
- Classes are twice a week (this actually depends on the number of courses you are taking and one can schedule their courses once a week too) and usually all the courses will start in the evening from 6:30 PM to 9:15 PM, and some will start in the day as well.
- On average, 15 students will be there in a class.
- 16 students are Indians in my course (even more in other courses and classes too).
Faculty
- Faculty-to-student ratio stands to 1:15 in most courses and goes till 1:30 in some maximum. It helps the professors to maintain quality, interaction, grading on time., and focus on the students.
- Professors usually teach in a professional way. Usually they will give a presentation on each topic of the class. I feel its not sufficient for us to prepare for a job.
- There are some people, like academic advisors, who assist students in jobs, provide resources regarding the openings in the jobs, and support the students all the time.
- M Schillo, who admires me the most.
Campus Life
- There are a total of 2 campuses to which I have gone.
- One is the main campus, which is in Glassboro, New Jersey.
- The other is in Camden, New Jersey.
- Rowan University has everything in terms of use for the students, including the library and Rowan Hall. Discovery Hall, Wellness Centre, International Centre at Savitz Hall, Dance Studios, Big Playgrounds (Outside), and Inside Play (includes basketball, chess, swimming pool, and many more).
- Halloween is the most celebrated one here and I am part of the one group of students in which I have participated in some activities.
- Rowan University gives much priority to all the students from different cultures and celebrates every festival on campus with conducting events corresponding to them.
- As I am part of Halloween and also our Indian festival, which is Diwali, I celebrated well with my friends on the same day here.
- Rowan University provides free food and drinks for every event they are conducting on campus.
Part Time Jobs
- As far as I have seen, Rowan University provides TA, RA, and GA to PHD students and not for graduate students.
- A minimum of $15-25 per hour will be paid.
- Other jobs include working in libraries, gyms, wellness centres, and others as receptionists and helping students find their path.
- The wage will be the same here; it starts at $15 per hour.
- Its hard to get a job on campus here, especially for international students. I have covered most of the campus but I didn't see any international students working there. Most of them are federal students.
- Most of the Indians do part time outside the college in some stores or gas stations. Its getting difficult nowadays to secure a part-time job both inside and outside the college. In college, Rowan University has one website, which is Profjobs. One has to look for their interest program and submit a request for that job and after careful considerations, Rowan University releases it. Based on that, one has to submit all the verification documents, secure a job, and start earning in that part-time job on campus. While its very difficult as of now, students usually choose outside of the college as a better way,, as one of their friends gives referral and they can join the job easily.
Placement
- Most of the full-time job opportunities will be for federal students (citizens or Green Card holders).
- Securing On-campus work is bit typical.
- Salary is based on the individual program and ranges from $60,000 and more as starting.
- Usually students join a consultancy and learn something extra after graduation and secure a job from that consultancy.
- Career fairs will be conducted throughout the year.
- Most of the attending companies are government-based.
- I know some of the companies attending career fairs include Agate Construction, CGI, Consigli, Ellenby Technologies, JAGG, Johnson Matthey, Microchip technology, Radius Systems, T&M Associates, SR3 Engineers, etc.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation through online WhatsApp groups from Rowan University.
- Monthly it would be $300, which includes few utilities.
- There are a lot of challenges for the rooms. One has to be prepared at least 2 months in advance for securing a room near the university, and I recommend students not to fall for any fraternities, and I urge future students to please confirm the location, housing, and renting details before signing a lease.
- I am staying 60 miles away from college.
- Most of the Indians usually stay within the 30-mile range of the college.
Exams
- GRE is required for admission.
- English Proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS) is required and must for International Students mainly from India and not required for those who is coming from English-speaking countries
- LORs are a must from previously studied colleges.
- SOP is a must.
- There is no interview in my admissions process. It all happened with paper work.
Fees
- The full fee is $32085 (one credit = $1035). Fees is charged semester-wise and credit-based (for example, if I have taken 10 credits in the first semester, it costs exactly $10,350).
- Health insurance is mandatory in the USA (Rowan University offers $2700 per year).
- The good thing is that Rowan University accepts the insurance from ISO and ISI health organisations (costs around $1000 per year).
- We can pay the tuition fees in installments (there is no pressure in paying our fee, but one has to complete his/her payment before the beginning of the next semester as they will place a hold on our student account).
- As I am not staying in hostel, I am not sure about the charges, but students usually live in a rented house (For me, it costs around $600 per month, including food, utilities, other expenses like transportation, etc.)
Scholarship
- No, there are no scholarships available for international students at Rowan University.
- The Rowan University fee structure is equal for both instate/outstate and international students (this is the main reason they will not provide any scholarships for international students).
- No one in my friends receives scholarships from Rowan University.
- I feel Rowan University's fee structure is low as compared to many public universities in the USA.
