Ques. What is the typical duration of the Ph.D. program?
Ans. The Ph.D. program typically spans 3-6 years depending on the research complexity and individual progress. Most students complete their research and thesis within 4-5 years. The duration includes coursework (first year), comprehensive exams, research work, and thesis submission. Students are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress and publish research papers during their tenure.
Ques. How is the research advisor assigned, and can I change my advisor?
Ans. Research advisors are assigned based on your research interests and the faculty's expertise during the admission interview process. You can request a change of advisor within the first semester if there are genuine compatibility issues. The department facilitates smooth transitions and ensures continuity in your research work. Multiple co-advisors can also be assigned for interdisciplinary research.
Ques. What is the fellowship amount, and how is it disbursed?
Ans. The monthly fellowship ranges from ₹57,000 to ₹71,000 based on your academic performance, research output, and publications. Fellowship is disbursed on the 5th of every month through direct bank transfer. Additionally, you receive research grants (₹2,00,000 - ₹5,00,000 per annum) and conference travel grants (₹50,000 - ₹1,00,000 per year) for presenting your research.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing the Ph.D.?
Ans. Ph.D. graduates have excellent career prospects in both academia and industry. The average package ranges from ₹15,00,000 to ₹25,00,000 per annum. Top recruiters include Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and leading Indian IT companies.
