LJU DAA FAQs
Ques. What is the Diploma in Architecture Assistantship (DAA)? Is it the same as a Diploma in Architecture?
Ans. The Diploma in Architecture Assistantship (DAA) is a 3-year AICTE-approved diploma program that trains students in architectural drawing, building design, construction technology, and structural systems. It is sometimes referred to as Diploma in Architecture. Graduates are qualified to work as architectural assistants, draftsmen, or junior architects. It is different from a B.Arch degree, which is a 5-year professional degree required for independent architectural practice and Council of Architecture (COA) registration.
Ques. Can I pursue B.Arch after completing the DAA diploma from LJ Polytechnic?
Ans. Yes, DAA diploma holders are eligible for lateral entry (direct second year) into B.Arch programs at recognized institutions, subject to the eligibility norms of the respective university and the Council of Architecture. This is a popular pathway for students who wish to upgrade their qualification to a full B.Arch degree after completing the diploma.
Ques. What is the admission process for DAA at LJ Polytechnic? Is there any entrance exam?
Ans. There is no entrance exam for DAA admission. Admission is through the ACPDC Gujarat centralized counselling process, based purely on Class 10 (SSC) merit. Students need to register on the ACPDC portal, fill in their choices, and receive a seat allotment. A minimum of 35% marks in Class 10 is required for eligibility.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing DAA from LJ Polytechnic?
Ans. DAA graduates can work as architectural assistants, draftsmen, site supervisors, and junior architects in government organizations (PWD, Archaeological Department, Housing Boards, HUDCO, NBCC, Railways, Defense) and private architecture firms, construction companies, real estate developers, and interior design studios. Many graduates also pursue higher studies (B.Arch via lateral entry) to advance their careers.
Ques. What is the total fee for the DAA program at LJ Polytechnic, and are there any scholarships available?
Ans. The ACPDC-regulated tuition fee is INR 48,000 per year (INR 1.44 Lakhs total for 3 years). However, total annual fees including admission, development, lab, and examination charges are approximately INR 1,00,000 per year. Students eligible for TFWS (Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme) pay only INR 1,500 per year in tuition fees. MYSY scholarship holders can get up to INR 50,000 per year reimbursed. SC/ST/OBC/SEBC/EWS students can avail Digital Gujarat scholarships.
Ques. How is the infrastructure and practical training for DAA students at LJ Polytechnic?
Ans. LJ Polytechnic has dedicated architecture studios, drafting labs, and computer labs with CAD software for DAA students. The institute organizes study tours to major architectural sites and construction projects as part of the curriculum. Students also benefit from the broader LJ University campus infrastructure including library, sports facilities, and the LJ Innovation Village, which encourages project-based learning and innovation.
