AIMIT M.Sc Data Science FAQs
Ques. Does AIMIT conduct its own entrance test for M.Sc. Data Science, or is Karnataka PGCET score sufficient?
Ans. AIMIT conducts its own internal entrance test for M.Sc. Data Science admissions. Karnataka PGCET score is also accepted. The final selection is based on a 50:50 weightage of the entrance test score and the qualifying examination (UG) marks. Students who have appeared for Karnataka PGCET can use that score, but they must still apply through the AIMIT portal and go through the personal interview round. The entrance test date is communicated individually to applicants via SMS, email, or WhatsApp after they submit the application form.
Ques. Is the M.Sc. Data Science at AIMIT the same as the one offered at the main St. Aloysius campus?
Ans. No, the M.Sc. Data Science programme is exclusively offered at the AIMIT campus located in Beeri, Mangalore, which is the postgraduate technology and management hub of St. Aloysius (Deemed To Be University). The main St. Aloysius campus on Lighthouse Hill Road does not offer this programme. AIMIT is a separate, dedicated 17-acre residential campus with its own labs, hostels, and faculty for IT and management programmes.
Ques. What is the actual fee I will pay as a Karnataka student, and are there any hidden charges?
Ans. For Karnataka students, the tuition and other charges for M.Sc. Data Science are Rs. 1,80,000 per year (as per the 2026-27 Year I fee structure), totalling approximately Rs. 3,60,000 for the full 2-year course. Examination fees are charged separately each semester and are not included in this amount. If you opt for hostel accommodation, an additional Rs. 87,500 per year (approximately) is payable. There are no other hidden charges, but students from reserved categories (SC/ST) may pay lower fees after scholarship adjustments.
Ques. What kind of companies recruit M.Sc. Data Science students from AIMIT, and what roles are offered?
Ans. Based on the 2023 and 2024 placement records, companies like TCS, MResult, EG India, Numentrix, ZingHR, Accolades, Pfizer, Niveus Solutions, and Mangalore Infotech (Unicourt) have recruited M.Sc. Data Science graduates from AIMIT. The roles offered are typically in data analysis, data science, business analytics, and software development. The average placement percentage for the department stands at 75%, and the overall AIMIT median package as per NIRF 2025 data is Rs. 5.65 LPA.
Ques. Can a student with a B.Com. or B.A. background with Business Mathematics apply for M.Sc. Data Science at AIMIT?
Ans. Yes, students from a B.Com. or B.A. background are eligible to apply, provided they have studied Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional subjects in their undergraduate programme and have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST/Category-I). This makes the programme accessible to students from commerce and arts backgrounds who have a quantitative foundation, not just science graduates. However, the entrance test will assess mathematical and analytical aptitude, so candidates from non-science backgrounds should prepare accordingly.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for M.Sc. Data Science students at AIMIT?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at AIMIT is available for both boys and girls but is not guaranteed. Allotment is done on a first-come-first-serve basis, and seats are limited. Students who wish to stay in the hostel are advised to apply for accommodation as early as possible after securing admission. The hostel fee is approximately Rs. 87,500 per year. For the latest availability and exact fee details, students should contact the hostel in-charge directly or email admissions@aimit.edu.in.
