SUAS Ph.D (Management) FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between full-time and part-time Ph.D at SUAS?
Ans. Full-time Ph.D requires students to be on campus and dedicate themselves entirely to research and coursework. Part-time Ph.D is available for working professionals who can pursue the program while maintaining employment, provided they obtain a No Objection Certificate from their employer. Both modes have the same 3-year minimum duration and follow identical curriculum and evaluation standards. However, part-time scholars may have flexible scheduling for coursework and research activities, and they must ensure sufficient time for research and coursework completion within the stipulated timeframe.
Ques. Is a No Objection Certificate (NOC) mandatory for part-time Ph.D admission?
Ans. Yes, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer is mandatory for part-time Ph.D admission at SUAS. The NOC must clearly state that your employer has no objection to you pursuing the Ph.D program on a part-time basis and that you will be relieved from duty to complete coursework if required. This certificate must be submitted along with your application form during the admission process. Self-employed individuals may need to provide alternative documentation as per university guidelines.
Ques. What are the mandatory publications required for Ph.D completion?
Ans. According to SUAS Ph.D policy, candidates must publish a minimum of 2 research papers in SCOPUS-indexed journals before submitting their thesis. These publications must be directly related to the thesis topic and certified by the research guide. This requirement ensures that Ph.D scholars contribute to the academic community and maintain high research standards. Publications in reputed journals also enhance career prospects in academia, research institutions, and industry.
Ques. How is the research guide/supervisor allocated?
Ans. The Dean of Research allocates a research guide to each Ph.D scholar, typically during or after the completion of coursework. Initially, an academic advisor may be assigned to guide the scholar during the coursework phase. The guide must be a permanent faculty member with Ph.D qualification and at least 3-5 research publications in peer-reviewed journals. A Research Advisory Committee (RAC) is also constituted to monitor progress and provide guidance throughout the program.
Ques. What is the maximum duration for completing a part-time Ph.D?
Ans. The maximum duration for completing a part-time Ph.D at SUAS is 8 years from the date of admission. However, female Ph.D scholars and Persons with Disabilities (having more than 40% disability) may be allowed an additional relaxation of 2 years, making the total maximum period 10 years. A minimum of 3 years is required for completion. If a scholar fails to complete within the maximum stipulated time, their registration may be cancelled as per university policy.
Ques. Can I pursue part-time Ph.D while working full-time?
Ans. Yes, SUAS offers a part-time Ph.D mode specifically designed for working professionals. To pursue part-time Ph.D, you must obtain a No Objection Certificate from your employer stating that you will be relieved from duty to complete coursework if required. The part-time mode provides flexibility in scheduling while maintaining the same academic rigor and research standards as the full-time program. However, you must ensure sufficient time for research and coursework completion within the stipulated timeframe, and you should be prepared to dedicate significant time outside working hours to your research.
