Candidates with a valid UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF, or GATE score are exempt from the SIU PET.

A detailed research proposal must be submitted at the time of application for doctoral committee review.

A second intake is also offered in July each year, with a separate application and test window.

Eligibility Criteria

LLM or equivalent postgraduate law degree from a recognised university with minimum 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates)

Must qualify the SIU Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET), or hold a valid UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF, or GATE score for exemption

Candidates with an M.Phil. degree in Law from a recognised university are also eligible to apply directly

Submit a detailed research proposal along with LLM mark sheets and postgraduate degree certificate

Appear for the SIU Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) if not exempted through a valid NET, JRF, or GATE score

Final selection is based on PET or exemption score combined with Research Proposal Presentation performance

Ques. What entrance exam is required for Ph.D. in Law at SIUH?

Ans. SIUH conducts its own Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) for doctoral admissions. Candidates with a valid UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF, or GATE score are exempt from the PET. Shortlisted applicants must then present a research proposal before the SLS Hyderabad doctoral committee as the final stage of selection into the programme.

Ques. What is the total fee for the Ph.D. in Law at SIUH?

Ans. The total fee for the 3-year Ph.D. in Law at SIUH is INR 2,20,000. Year 1 costs INR 1,20,000 (tuition INR 50,000 plus institutional charges INR 70,000). Years 2 and 3 are INR 50,000 each per year with no additional institutional charges. Education loans are available through empanelled banks.

Ques. Does SIUH offer Ph.D. Law admission in January and July both?

Ans. Yes. SIUH offers Ph.D. Law admissions twice a year in the January and July sessions. Each session has a separate application window and entrance test schedule. The research proposal presentation and doctoral committee interview are conducted individually for each intake cycle, giving candidates two opportunities annually.
