JLU B.Tech Renewable Energy FAQs
Ques. Is B.Tech Renewable Energy at JLU a recognised and valid degree, and does it require AICTE approval?
Ans. Yes, the B.Tech in Renewable Energy at JLU is a fully valid degree. Jagran Lakecity University is established under the Madhya Pradesh Private University Act No. 22 of 2013 and is recognised by the UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. As a bonafide university established by a State Act, JLU does not require AICTE approval - this has been upheld in the case of Bharathidasan University vs. AICTE. The degree is therefore legally valid and recognised for employment and higher education purposes.
Ques. Can I get admission to B.Tech Renewable Energy at JLU without a JEE Main score?
Ans. Yes, you can. JLU conducts its own entrance test called JLUET (also referred to as JLURET), which is the primary mode of admission for B.Tech programmes. JEE Main scores are accepted as an alternative to JLUET and can also make you eligible for merit-based scholarships. If you have not appeared for JEE Main, you can still apply and appear for JLUET, which consists of an MCQ-based written test and a personal interview. The minimum eligibility is 50% marks in Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing B.Tech Renewable Energy from JLU?
Ans. Graduates of B.Tech Renewable Energy can pursue careers in solar energy project development, wind farm operations, energy auditing, grid integration, and sustainability consulting. Key employers include NTPC Renewable Energy, Adani Green Energy, Tata Power Solar, ReNew Power, and various government bodies like MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) and SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India). Graduates can also pursue M.Tech in Renewable Energy or Energy Systems, or appear for GATE to seek admission to IITs and NITs for postgraduate studies. The sector is growing rapidly with India targeting 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, making this a future-proof career choice.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech Renewable Energy and B.Tech Sustainable Engineering at JLU? Are they the same?
Ans. These are two distinct programmes at JLU. B.Tech Renewable Energy focuses specifically on energy generation from renewable sources such as solar, wind, biomass, and hydro, along with energy storage and grid systems. B.Tech Sustainable Engineering (offered under the Electronics and Computer Engineering / Robotics and Automation / Sustainable Engineering cluster) has a broader scope covering sustainable design, green infrastructure, and environmental engineering. The fee structure for Sustainable Engineering is Rs. 1,50,000 per year (as per the 2025 fee structure), while Renewable Energy is priced at Rs. 1,15,000 per year. Students specifically interested in clean energy technologies should opt for Renewable Energy.
Ques. Is the seat intake for B.Tech Renewable Energy at JLU very limited? Will I get a seat easily?
Ans. The B.Tech Renewable Energy programme at JLU has a seat intake of 40 students, which is relatively small compared to mainstream engineering branches like CSE. This limited intake is intentional to maintain quality and ensure focused faculty attention. Since this is a niche specialisation, competition is lower compared to CSE or AI programmes. Students with 50% or above in Class 12 (PCM) and a reasonable JLUET or JEE Main score generally have a good chance of securing admission. However, merit scholarships are competitive and are awarded based on JEE scores and Class 12 percentages.
Ques. Does JLU provide placement support specifically for B.Tech Renewable Energy students? What kind of companies recruit from this programme?
Ans. JLU has a dedicated Career Development Centre (CDC) that supports all B.Tech students including those from the Renewable Energy programme. While large-scale exclusive placement data specific to this branch is not publicly available due to the small batch size, the university's overall engineering placement record shows companies like Amazon, Infosys, Wipro, Jio, and Cognizant visiting campus. For Renewable Energy specifically, students are encouraged to pursue internships with solar and wind energy companies during their programme. The highest package reported across JLU engineering batches is 12 LPA (Batch 2024). Students are advised to supplement their degree with certifications in solar PV design, energy auditing, and SCADA systems to improve employability in the renewable energy sector.
