Ques. What is the duration of the Ph.D. Forensic Science programme at SGT University, and can it be extended?
Ans. The Ph.D. programme at SGT University has a minimum duration of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years as per UGC norms. The actual duration depends on the progress of the research work and the submission and acceptance of the doctoral thesis. In exceptional cases, the university may grant an extension beyond 5 years with proper justification, subject to the approval of the Vice Chancellor. Scholars are expected to complete their coursework in the first year and then focus on research and thesis writing in subsequent years.
Ques. Is the SGT University PhD entrance exam mandatory, or can I get exemption?
Ans. Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, SLET, or any equivalent national-level fellowship/eligibility test are exempted from the SGT University PhD entrance examination. Such candidates are directly called for a Personal Interview/Viva. For candidates without these qualifications, the entrance exam consists of 70 multiple-choice questions (50% subject-oriented and 50% research methodology), with each correct answer carrying 1 mark. The exam is scheduled for July 18, 2026 for the 2026-27 batch.

Ques. What is the total cost of pursuing a Ph.D. in Forensic Science at SGT University, including hostel?
Ans. The tuition fee is Rs. 1,50,000 per annum. For the minimum 3-year duration, the total tuition cost is Rs. 4,50,000. If the programme extends to 4 or 5 years, the total tuition cost would be Rs. 6,00,000 or Rs. 7,50,000 respectively. The one-time application fee is Rs. 1,500.
