SGTU Ph.D. Environmental Science FAQs
Ques. Is the SGT University Ph.D. entrance exam compulsory for all candidates, or can UGC-NET qualified candidates get a direct interview call?
Ans. Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/JRF or CSIR-JRF are exempted from the written entrance test at SGT University. They are directly called for a Personal Interview/Viva. However, they must still apply through the official portal before the last date (11th July 2026) and submit their NET/JRF certificate as proof. The final admission is based on the interview performance and merit.
Ques. What is the minimum duration of the Ph.D. programme, and can it be completed in less than 3 years?
Ans. As per UGC Ph.D. Regulations 2022, the minimum duration for a full-time Ph.D. programme is 3 years from the date of registration. SGT University follows these UGC norms strictly. Completion before 3 years is not permitted. The maximum duration is typically 6 years, with possible extensions subject to university approval. Scholars are expected to submit their thesis only after completing the mandatory coursework, research, and publication requirements.
Ques. What research areas are available under Ph.D. Environmental Science at SGT University, and how is a supervisor assigned?
Ans. The programme covers a wide range of research areas including climate change, air and water pollution, environmental toxicology, waste management, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and environmental impact assessment. After admission, a research supervisor is assigned based on the scholar's stated area of interest and the availability and expertise of the faculty. Scholars are encouraged to discuss their research interests during the personal interview itself, which helps in better supervisor-scholar matching.
Ques. Are there any fellowship or stipend options available for Ph.D. scholars in Environmental Science at SGT University?
Ans. Yes, SGT University offers a University Research Fellowship (URF) to eligible Ph.D. scholars. Additionally, scholars who have qualified UGC-NET JRF or CSIR-JRF are entitled to receive the fellowship as per UGC/CSIR norms, which is currently Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 per month thereafter (as per UGC 2023 revised rates). Scholars receiving JRF/URF are also listed on the university's official fellowship register. It is advisable to confirm the current URF stipend amount directly with the Ph.D. cell at the time of admission.

Ans. The tuition fee of Rs. 75,000 is payable each semester. There is no officially stated EMI option. Regarding refunds, SGT University follows the UGC refund policy guidelines. If a student withdraws before the commencement of the academic session, a full refund (minus a processing fee) is generally applicable. Scholars should confirm the exact refund policy with the admissions office at the time of fee payment.
