SGT Pharm.D (PB) FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between Pharm.D (Regular) and Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) at SGT University?
Ans. Pharm.D (Regular) is a 6-year programme (5 years academic + 1 year residency) for students who have passed 12th with PCB/PCM. Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) is a 3-year programme (2 years academic + 1 year residency) exclusively for B.Pharmacy graduates. Both programmes lead to the same Pharm.D degree and are regulated by PCI. The Post Baccalaureate route is a faster pathway for B.Pharm graduates to obtain the Pharm.D qualification and transition into clinical pharmacy practice without repeating the basic pharmacy subjects already covered in B.Pharm.
Ques. Is the Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) degree from SGT University recognised for clinical pharmacist positions in hospitals?
Ans. Yes, the Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) degree from SGT University is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and is nationally recognised. Pharm.D graduates are eligible to work as Clinical Pharmacists in hospitals, which is a growing role in India as hospitals increasingly adopt clinical pharmacy services. The 1-year residency at SGT Hospital provides the practical clinical experience required for hospital pharmacy positions. Graduates are also eligible for Drug Inspector positions in state drug control departments, which require a Pharm.D or equivalent qualification.
Ques. What is the residency component of Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) at SGT University, and what does it involve?
Ans. The 1-year residency is the third year of the Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) programme and is conducted at SGT Hospital, a 1000+ bed multi-speciality teaching hospital on the SGT University campus. During the residency, students rotate through various clinical departments including medicine, surgery, cardiology, oncology, paediatrics, and critical care, working alongside physicians and nurses as part of the healthcare team. The residency focuses on medication therapy management, patient counselling, adverse drug reaction monitoring, drug information services, and clinical pharmacokinetics. This hands-on experience is a key differentiator of the Pharm.D programme compared to M.Pharm.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) from SGT University?
Ans. Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) graduates can pursue careers as Clinical Pharmacists in hospitals and healthcare institutions, Drug Information Specialists, Pharmacovigilance Associates in pharmaceutical companies and CROs, Clinical Research Associates, Regulatory Affairs professionals, Drug Inspectors in state/central drug control departments, Medical Writers, and Lecturers/Assistant Professors in pharmacy colleges. The growing emphasis on clinical pharmacy services in Indian hospitals, driven by NABH accreditation requirements, has significantly increased the demand for Pharm.D-qualified clinical pharmacists in recent years.
Ques. Can I pursue M.Pharm after completing B.Pharm, or is Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) a better option?
Ans. Both M.Pharm and Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) are valid postgraduate options after B.Pharm, but they serve different career goals. M.Pharm (2 years) is research and industry-oriented, with specialisations in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, etc., and is better suited for careers in pharmaceutical R&D, manufacturing, and academia. Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) (3 years including residency) is clinically oriented and is better suited for careers in hospital pharmacy, clinical research, and patient care. If your goal is to work as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital or pursue clinical research, Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) is the more appropriate choice.
Ques. What is the fee structure for Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) at SGT University, and are there any scholarships available?
Ans. The total tuition fee for the 3-year Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) programme at SGT University is INR 10,50,000 (INR 3,50,000 per annum). Merit-based scholarships are available for candidates with 70% and above in B.Pharmacy, ranging from 25% to 100% tuition fee waiver. Haryana domicile students are eligible for additional fee concessions under Section 36 of the Haryana Private Universities Act, 2006. Female students and wards of defence personnel are eligible for a 5% fee concession. Education loans from nationalised banks are also available to cover the full course fees.
