SGT M.Sc. Digital Forensic FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security and M.Sc. Forensic Science at SGT University?
Ans. Both programs are offered by the Department of Forensic Science at SGT University, but they have distinct focuses. M.Sc. Forensic Science covers a broad range of forensic disciplines including crime scene investigation, forensic biology, toxicology, and document examination. M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security, on the other hand, is specifically focused on the digital domain - cybercrime investigation, digital evidence recovery, network security, cryptography, malware analysis, and information security management. If your career goal is in cybersecurity, cyber law enforcement, or IT security, the Digital Forensics program is the more relevant choice.
Ques. Is there any entrance exam required for admission to this program, and what is the selection process?
Ans. No national-level entrance exam is required for admission to the M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security program at SGT University. The selection is based on merit of the qualifying UG degree (minimum 55% aggregate) and a Personal Interview (PI) conducted by the department. The PI assesses the candidate's aptitude for the program, basic knowledge of computers and forensics, and communication skills. Candidates simply need to register on the official admission portal, fill the application form, pay the registration fee, and appear for the PI. Admission is confirmed after document verification and fee payment.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security from SGT University?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers as Digital Forensic Experts, Cybercrime Investigators, Information Security Analysts, Forensic IT Specialists, Malware Analysts, Incident Response Specialists, Ethical Hackers, and Security Consultants. Employment opportunities exist in government agencies (CBI, CID, Cyber Crime Cells, CERT-In), private cybersecurity firms, IT companies, banks and financial institutions, forensic laboratories, and multinational corporations. The demand for digital forensics and cybersecurity professionals in India is growing rapidly, with the Indian cybersecurity market expected to reach USD 13.6 billion by 2025, creating significant job opportunities for qualified graduates.
Ques. Can a student from a non-technical background (like B.Sc. in Biology or B.Com) apply for this program?
Ans. The eligibility criteria specifically requires a technical or science background. Eligible qualifications include B.Sc. in Forensic Science, Computer Science, IT, or Electronics and Communication; B.Tech. in IT/CSE; BCA; Bioinformatics; or B.Sc. LLB. A general B.Sc. in Biology or B.Com does not qualify for this program. However, students with B.Sc. LLB are eligible, which makes it accessible to those with a legal background who want to specialize in cyber law and digital evidence. The minimum aggregate requirement is 55% in the qualifying degree.
Ques. What tools and technologies are students trained on during the M.Sc. Digital Forensics program?
Ans. The program provides hands-on training with industry-standard tools used in digital forensics and cybersecurity. Students are trained on forensic tools for disk imaging and analysis (such as FTK, Autopsy, EnCase), network forensics tools, malware analysis platforms, mobile forensics tools, and cloud forensics techniques. The curriculum also covers cryptography tools, intrusion detection systems, and incident response frameworks. The practical training is integrated into each semester, ensuring students graduate with job-ready skills that are directly applicable in cybercrime investigation and information security roles.
Ques. What is the total cost of the program including hostel, and are there any scholarships available?
Ans. The total tuition fee for the 2-year M.Sc. Digital Forensics program is INR 3,20,000 (INR 80,000 per semester). Including the one-time registration fee of INR 2,500 and refundable caution deposit of INR 10,000, the total comes to INR 3,32,500. If you opt for hostel accommodation, the annual hostel fee ranges from INR 1,40,000 to INR 2,00,000 per year (inclusive of mess charges), making the total 2-year cost approximately INR 6,12,500 to INR 7,32,500 with hostel. Merit-based scholarships of up to 100% tuition fee waiver are available for students with 90% or above in their UG degree, significantly reducing the financial burden.
