SGTU MCA FAQs
Ques. Does SGT University accept NIMCET scores for MCA (AI & ML) admission, or is it purely merit-based?
Ans. SGT University accepts both NIMCET and CUET PG scores for MCA admissions, and candidates with valid scores from these exams are given preference during the selection process. However, the university also offers direct merit-based admission for students who have not appeared in any national entrance exam. The final selection involves a Personal Interview (PI), which is conducted online via Zoom or in-person at the campus. So even without an entrance exam score, students can secure admission based on their graduation performance and PI outcome.
Ques. What is the difference between the general MCA and MCA (AI & ML) at SGT University? Are the fees the same?
Ans. Both the general MCA and MCA (AI & ML) are offered under the same School of Engineering and Technology at SGT University, and the total academic fee of Rs. 2,12,500 for the full 2-year programme is the same for both. The key difference lies in the elective subjects: the AI & ML specialisation includes dedicated electives such as Introduction to AI and Machine Learning, Fundamentals of Blockchain, and advanced data science topics, whereas the general MCA has a broader curriculum. Students interested in careers in AI, data science, or machine learning engineering should opt for the specialised track.
Ques. Is the Industrial Internship in Semester IV paid, and does the university help in securing it?
Ans. The Semester IV of the MCA programme at SGT University is entirely dedicated to Industrial Internship, which is a mandatory component of the curriculum. The university actively facilitates internship placements through its industry collaborations with companies like IBM, Microsoft, Wipro, TCS, and others. Whether the internship is paid or unpaid depends on the company and the student's profile. Many students have reported receiving stipends during their internships, particularly from larger IT companies. The placement cell assists students in identifying and applying for internship opportunities.
Ques. What are the hostel facilities like at SGT University, and is it mandatory to stay on campus?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at SGT University is optional and not mandatory for MCA students. The university offers separate hostels for boys and girls on its 75-acre campus with modern amenities. Room options include four-sharing (Rs. 1,40,000 per annum), three-sharing (Rs. 1,80,000 per annum), and twin-sharing (Rs. 2,00,000 per annum). Meal charges are not included in the hostel fee and are billed separately. Students who prefer to commute can do so, as the university is located on the Gurugram-Badli Road and is accessible from various parts of Delhi NCR.
Ques. Can a student from a non-IT background (like B.Com or B.A. with Maths) apply for MCA (AI & ML) at SGT University?
Ans. Yes, SGT University has a broad eligibility criterion for MCA admissions. Students from any graduation background including B.Com, B.A., or B.Sc. are eligible to apply, provided they have Mathematics at the 10+2 level or at the graduation level and have secured at least 50% aggregate marks. For students coming from non-IT backgrounds who may lack foundational programming knowledge, the university offers a bridge course in Mathematics and basic computing to help them meet the desired learning outcomes of the programme. This makes the MCA (AI & ML) accessible to a wider pool of applicants.
Ques. What kind of jobs can one expect after completing MCA (AI & ML) from SGT University, and what is the average salary?
Ans.
