SGT BA English FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the 3-year and 4-year tracks in B.A. English at SGT University?
Ans. Under the NEP 2020 framework, SGT University offers two exit options. The 3-year track leads to a Bachelor's degree (6 semesters, total tuition INR 2,40,000), while the 4-year track leads to a B.A. (Hons. with Research) degree (8 semesters, total tuition INR 3,20,000). The 4-year track includes an independent literary research dissertation in the final year, which is particularly valuable for students planning to pursue postgraduate studies in English Literature, Comparative Literature, or Linguistics, or those aiming for academic and research careers. Students can decide their track at the time of admission or transition after completing Year 3, subject to eligibility.
Ques. Is CUET mandatory for admission to B.A. English at SGT University, and which CUET subjects should I choose?
Ans. CUET UG scores are accepted and preferred for merit-based admission to B.A. programmes at SGT University. For B.A. English, students should ideally appear in the English language and English Literature domain subjects in CUET UG. However, the university also offers direct merit-based admission based on Class 12 marks for students who have not appeared in CUET. There is no separate university-level entrance test for this course.
Ques. What career options are available after completing B.A. (Hons. with Research) in English from SGT University?
Ans. Graduates can pursue a wide range of careers including Writer, Editor, Journalist, Content Creator, Copywriter, Publisher, Public Relations Specialist, Teacher, Researcher, and Linguist. The strong foundation in literary analysis, creative writing, and communication skills also makes graduates well-suited for roles in digital media, advertising, corporate communications, and content marketing. Many students also pursue postgraduate degrees such as M.A. in English, M.A. in Journalism, or MBA in Marketing after completing this program. The program also prepares students for competitive exams like UPSC (English Literature Optional) and UGC NET.
Ques. What is the annual intake for B.A. English at SGT University, and how does the small batch size benefit students?
Ans. The program admits only 30 students annually, which is significantly smaller than most English Honours programs at other universities. This small batch size ensures a highly personalised learning environment where students receive individual attention from faculty, have more opportunities to participate in seminars and workshops, and can engage in deeper academic discussions. It also fosters a close-knit community of literature enthusiasts, which is beneficial for collaborative creative projects, literary events, and peer learning.
Ques. Does the B.A. English program at SGT University include creative writing as a subject, and are there any literary events or publications?
Ans. Yes, Creative Writing is a core component of the curriculum. Students develop skills in fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and scriptwriting through dedicated coursework. SGT University's HSLA school also organises literary events, seminars, and cultural activities that provide students with platforms to showcase their creative work. Students are encouraged to contribute to university publications and participate in inter-university literary competitions, which helps build their portfolio for careers in writing and publishing.
Ques. Can I pursue a B.Ed. or UGC NET after completing B.A. English from SGT University to become a teacher?
Ans. Yes, after completing B.A. English from SGT University, you can pursue a B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) to become a school teacher, or an M.A. in English followed by UGC NET/JRF to become a college or university lecturer. SGT University itself offers a B.Ed. program, making it convenient to continue your education within the same campus. For UGC NET, the B.A. (Hons. with Research) degree from a NAAC A+ accredited university like SGT is well-recognised, and the research methodology training in the 4-year track provides a strong foundation for the NET examination.
