SGT BA IR FAQs
Ques. Is CUET mandatory for admission to B.A. (Hons.) International Relations at SGT University?
Ans. CUET is not mandatory for admission to this program at SGT University. The university accepts both direct merit-based applications (based on 10+2 marks) and CUET UG scores. However, students who have appeared in CUET UG 2026 can benefit from CUET-based scholarships - a percentile of 95 and above qualifies for 100% tuition fee waiver in the first year, making it financially advantageous to apply through CUET. The admission process involves a Personal Interview (PI) regardless of the route chosen.
Ques. What is the difference between the 3-year B.A. (Hons.) and the 4-year B.A. (Hons. with Research) program?
Ans. Under the NEP 2020 framework, students have the flexibility to exit after 3 years with a B.A. (Hons.) degree (6 semesters, total tuition Rs. 3,00,000) or continue for a 4th year to earn a B.A. (Hons. with Research) degree (8 semesters, total tuition Rs. 4,00,000). The 4-year program includes a dedicated research component and is particularly beneficial for students planning to pursue postgraduate studies or research careers in international relations, diplomacy, or strategic studies. The additional year costs Rs. 1,00,000 in tuition.
Ques. What kind of career opportunities are available after completing this program?
Ans. Graduates of B.A. (Hons.) International Relations from SGT University can pursue careers as Diplomat or Foreign Service Officer (through UPSC Civil Services), Intelligence Analyst, International Policy Advisor, Political Risk Analyst, Human Rights Officer, Defence and Security Consultant, UN or Intergovernmental Organization Officer, Global Affairs Correspondent, or Academician. The program also prepares students for competitive exams like CDS (Combined Defence Services). Students interested in further studies can pursue MA in International Relations, MA in Political Science, or MBA in International Business.
Ques. Does SGT University provide internship opportunities as part of this program?
Ans. Yes, internships and practical training are an integral part of the curriculum. Students get exposure through field visits, training with governmental agencies, think tanks, and NGOs. The university's location in Gurgaon (Delhi NCR) provides proximity to embassies, think tanks, policy research institutes, and international organizations in New Delhi, making it easier for students to secure relevant internships. The program also includes collaborations with government bodies and research institutions as part of its experiential learning framework.
Ques. What is the hostel situation at SGT University for students from outside Gurgaon?
Ans. SGT University has separate on-campus hostels for boys and girls on its 75-acre campus in Chandu-Bhudera, Gurgaon. Rooms are fully furnished with optional AC facility (at extra cost). Hostel fees (without meal plan) range from Rs. 1,40,000 per year for 4-sharing rooms to Rs. 2,00,000 per year for twin-sharing rooms. The meal plan is charged separately. The campus is well-connected to Delhi NCR via university buses, and is located less than 5 km from the Delhi border and about 18 km from IGI Airport, making it accessible for students from across the country.
Ques. How small is the batch size and does it affect the quality of learning?
Ans. The B.A. (Hons.) International Relations program at SGT University has an annual intake of 30 students. This small batch size is a significant advantage as it ensures personalized attention from faculty, more interactive classroom discussions, and better mentoring opportunities. Students benefit from a 1:10 faculty-student ratio across the university. The focused cohort also means students build a close-knit peer network, which is particularly valuable in a field like International Relations where networking and collaborative research are important.
