Lucknow University PhD Eligibility Criteria

Below are the eligibility criteria for admission to the PhD program at Lucknow University.

• The candidates have to possess a Master’s degree or other equivalent qualification with a minimum better 55% marks (or its equivalent grade B on the UGC 7-point scale).

• SC/ST/OBC and differently-abled candidates are allowed to relax by a margin of 5% (i.e. minimum of 50%).

• Applicants who hold an M.Phil degree or a degree that is equivalent to M.Phil in an approved foreign institution can also be eligible, provided that some conditions are met.

Who is Exempted from RET at Lucknow University?

Some specific candidates do not have to attend the RET and can directly attend the interview:

• Foreigners who enter the country through their embassy or High Commission or under an agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) between foreign institutions are exempted from both RET and the interview/viva-voce.

• Note: Previously, candidates with qualifications like JRF or NET were exempted from the entrance test. However, under the new ordinance, all applicants, including those with such qualifications, are now required to appear for the RET.
