University of Lucknow BA Arabic: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. Admission to BA Arabic at LU is through UGET, the university’s own 100-question MCQ entrance test. Candidates must register on the Samarth portal to obtain a LURN, fill the application, appear for the test, and attend merit-based counselling for subject and seat allotment. Prior knowledge of Arabic is not mandatory for eligibility.

Ans. No prior knowledge of Arabic is required for eligibility. The UGET is a general knowledge MCQ test based on the 12th standard level. Students from any stream who meet the 45% aggregate criterion (40% for SC/ST/PwD) are eligible to apply. The programme starts from foundational Arabic language skills in the first year.

Ans. Graduates can appear for UPSC civil services with Arabic as their optional language subject, pursue careers in diplomatic services, translation, interpretation, or Islamic banking. Teaching opportunities exist at schools, colleges, and madrasas. Students may also pursue MA Arabic or research programmes at LU or other institutions specialising in Middle Eastern languages and literature.

Ans. Of the 60 seats available in BA Arabic at LU, 40 are designated as Major seats where Arabic is the primary subject of study, and 20 are Minor seats where students study Arabic as a secondary subject alongside another major discipline. Major students get deeper language, grammar, and literature exposure across all semesters.

Ans. SC/ST/OBC and minority students can apply for the UP Post-Matric Scholarship at scholarships.up.gov.in for tuition fee reimbursement. LU merit scholarships provide 100% tuition waiver for CGPA 9.2 and above, and 40% waiver for CGPA 8.5 to 9.2. Minority community students may also apply for the Maulana Azad National Fellowship through the National Scholarship Portal.

Ans. The curriculum covers Arabic prose and poetry, classical Arabic grammar, Modern Standard Arabic, translation and interpretation, Islamic literature, and the history of Arab civilisation. Later semesters include comparative literature, Arabic linguistics, and research paper writing. Students also study Indian Muslim literary traditions and the historical contributions of Arabic to world scholarship.
