Ques. What research areas are available under PhD Urdu at CSJMU?
Ans. The PhD Urdu programme at CSJMU covers a wide range of research areas including Classical Urdu Poetry (Ghazal, Nazm, Marsiya, Qasida), Urdu Prose and Fiction, Urdu Criticism and Literary Theory, Urdu Linguistics and Grammar, Comparative Literature (Urdu with Hindi, Persian, Arabic), Modern Urdu Literature, Urdu Journalism, and the history and development of Urdu language in India. Ques. Is UGC-NET in Urdu required for PhD Urdu admission at CSJMU?
Ans. UGC-NET in Urdu is not mandatory for applying to the PhD Urdu programme at CSJMU. All candidates can apply and appear for the CSJMU PhD Entrance Test. However, candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/JRF in Urdu are exempted from the written entrance test and are directly called for the subject-specific interview. Non-NET candidates must clear the entrance test with at least 50% marks to be eligible for the interview round.

Ans. Generally, candidates must hold an M.A. in Urdu or an equivalent postgraduate degree to be eligible for PhD Urdu at CSJMU. The final selection is based on 70% weightage to the entrance test score and 30% to the interview.

Ans. The PhD Urdu programme has a minimum duration of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years. Key milestones include: completion of mandatory pre-PhD coursework (typically in the first year), submission of a research synopsis and approval by the Research Degree Committee (RDC), regular six-monthly Research Advisory Committee (RAC) reviews, submission of the final thesis, external evaluation of the thesis, and the viva voce examination. Scholars who do not complete within 4 years are subject to extension charges. The degree is awarded after successful completion of all these stages.
