CSJMU B.Tech FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech CSE and B.Tech CSE (Artificial Intelligence) at CSJMU, and which one should I choose?
Ans. Both programmes are offered at CSJMU UIET at the same annual fee of Rs. 1,15,200. B.Tech CSE is the traditional computer science programme covering a broad range of topics including programming, data structures, algorithms, databases, networks, and software engineering. B.Tech CSE (AI) has a specialised curriculum with a stronger focus on machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, and AI applications. If you are specifically interested in AI/ML as a career, CSE-AI may be more suitable. However, B.Tech CSE also covers AI/ML as electives and has a larger intake (180 seats vs 60 seats for CSE-AI), which means more peers and a larger alumni network.
Ques. What JEE Main rank is typically required for B.Tech CSE at CSJMU?
Ans. B.Tech CSE is the most competitive branch at CSJMU UIET. Based on historical trends, students with a JEE Main percentile of around 75-90 (state-level rank) have secured admission to CSE at CSJMU. The exact cutoff varies each year based on the number of applicants. CSE-AI typically has a slightly lower cutoff than CSE due to fewer seats and lower awareness. Students should register for CSJMU counselling and participate in all three rounds to maximise their chances.
Ques. How are the placements for B.Tech CSE at CSJMU UIET?
Ans. CSE is the most placement-active branch at CSJMU UIET. Major IT companies including TCS, Infosys, HCL, IBM, and Samsung Electronics recruit from UIET. The highest package reported for B.Tech (overall) at UIET is around 18 LPA, while the average package for CSE students typically ranges from Rs. 3.2 to 7 LPA. The university also organises annual job fairs at the CSJMU campus. Additionally, many CSE students pursue higher education through GATE, with several securing admissions to IITs and IISc Bangalore.
Ques. Is there a B.Tech CSE lateral entry option at CSJMU, and what is the process?
Ans. Yes, lateral entry is available for B.Tech CSE at CSJMU. Students who have completed a 3-year Diploma in Computer Science/IT or any branch of Engineering from a UPBTE-recognised institution, or a 3-year B.Sc. with Mathematics at 10+2 level, are eligible for lateral entry into the 2nd year (3rd semester). The annual fee for lateral entry is also Rs. 1,15,200. Admission is through the CSJMU Admission Portal based on merit, not through the JEE Main-based counselling process.
Ques. What is the fee for B.Tech CSE at CSJMU, and how does it compare to private colleges?
Ans. The annual fee for B.Tech CSE at CSJMU is Rs. 1,15,200, making the total 4-year course fee Rs. 4,60,800. This is significantly lower than most private engineering colleges in UP, where B.Tech CSE fees typically range from Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 per year or more. Given that CSJMU is a NAAC A++ accredited state university with a strong alumni network and active placement cell, it offers excellent value for money. Students from reserved categories can further reduce their effective cost through UP Government Post-Matric Scholarships.
Ques. Can students from outside Uttar Pradesh apply for B.Tech CSE at CSJMU, and are there any restrictions?
Ans. Yes, students from any state in India can apply for B.Tech CSE at CSJMU through the JEE Main-based counselling process. There are no state domicile restrictions for admission. However, UP Government scholarships (Post-Matric) are available only to students originally domiciled in Uttar Pradesh. Students from other states can explore central government scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal (nsp.gov.in). Additionally, 10% supernumerary seats are available for international students across all programmes on the CSJMU campus.
