SRIHER MPT Sports FAQs
Ques. What makes the M.P.T. Sports programme at SRIHER unique compared to other MPT programmes in India?
Ans. The M.P.T. Sports at SRIHER is the first MPT programme in India with an international curriculum aligned with the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapists (IFSPT). It is offered in a blended mode (face-to-face and online), has collaborations with universities in the UK and Australia, and provides clinical rotations at SRCSS -- Asia's largest sports science facility. Students also get opportunities to travel with sports teams and work with national and international sports organisations.
Ques. Is a BPT from any university accepted for admission, or only from SRIHER?
Ans. BPT from any UGC-recognised university obtained through full-time regular classroom mode is accepted. The degree must be of not less than 4.5 years duration including 6 months of internship. A minimum of 55% aggregate marks or B+ Grade is required.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing M.P.T. Sports from SRIHER?
Ans. Graduates can work as Sports Physiotherapists with professional sports teams (cricket, football, athletics, etc.), government and private sports organisations, sports medicine centres, sports science academic institutions, and rehabilitation clinics. SRIHER's strong industry connections with TNCA, Chennaiyin FC, and international sports bodies provide excellent placement pathways. Graduates can also pursue Ph.D. research in sports physiotherapy or sports science.
Ques. Does the M.P.T. Sports programme at SRIHER provide opportunities to work with professional sports teams during the course?
Ans. Yes. The programme includes clinical rotations at various sports academies attached to SRCSS and external sports organisations. SRCSS is the official sports medicine partner for Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and Chennaiyin FC, and has hosted international cricketers and athletes. Students also have opportunities to travel with teams during their training.
Ques. What is the difference between M.P.T. Sports and M.P.T. (Orthopaedics and Traumatology) at SRIHER? Which is better for a career in sports?
Ans. M.P.T. Sports is specifically designed for sports physiotherapy with an IFSPT-aligned curriculum, sports-specific electives, and clinical rotations at sports academies. M.P.T. Orthopaedics focuses on musculoskeletal rehabilitation in a clinical hospital setting. For a career specifically in sports teams, sports medicine centres, and athlete rehabilitation, M.P.T. Sports is the more targeted and internationally recognised choice.
Ques. Is the M.P.T. Sports programme at SRIHER recognised by any international body?
Ans. Yes, the curriculum is aligned with the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapists (IFSPT) competency framework, which is the global standard for sports physiotherapy. SRIHER also has collaborations with universities in the UK and Australia, and SRCSS holds accreditations from ICC, BCCI, AFC (Centre of Excellence), SAI, and SDAT, giving the programme strong international credibility.
