SIMATS M.Sc Physiology FAQs
Ques. Is M.Sc Medical Physiology at SIMATS a recognised degree, and is it valid for teaching or research positions?
Ans. Yes, SIMATS is a UGC-recognised Deemed-to-be University with NAAC A++ accreditation. The M.Sc Medical Physiology degree from SIMATS is valid for applying to teaching positions in medical and paramedical colleges (subject to UGC/NMC norms) and for pursuing Ph.D. programmes at SIMATS or other universities. However, for teaching in NMC-regulated medical colleges, candidates may additionally need to qualify NET/SET or hold a Ph.D., depending on the institution's requirements.
Ques. What is the difference between M.Sc Medical Physiology and a regular M.Sc Physiology? Why should I choose the medical version?
Ans. M.Sc Medical Physiology is specifically designed for students who wish to work in a medical college environment, either as faculty in the Physiology department or as researchers in clinical/biomedical settings. The curriculum is aligned with NMC guidelines for pre-clinical medical education and includes topics directly relevant to MBBS teaching. A regular M.Sc Physiology from a science university may have a broader science focus but may not be as directly applicable to medical college teaching roles.
Ques. Can a B.Sc graduate (non-MBBS) get admission to M.Sc Medical Physiology at SIMATS?
Ans. Yes, B.Sc graduates in Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Zoology, or related disciplines with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible to apply. MBBS/BDS/BPT holders are also eligible. The admission is based on the SIMATS Entrance Exam and merit.
Ques. What are the career options after completing M.Sc Medical Physiology from SIMATS?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers as Physiology faculty/demonstrators in medical and paramedical colleges, research associates in biomedical research institutions, lab technicians or research scientists in pharmaceutical companies, or can go on to pursue Ph.D. in Physiology or related disciplines. Some graduates also appear for competitive exams like CSIR-NET (Life Sciences) to qualify for lectureship or research fellowships.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for M.Sc students at SIMATS? What are the facilities?
Ans. Yes, SIMATS provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls on campus. The campus has 150 hostel rooms with facilities including multi-cuisine restaurants, laundry services, 24x7 medical aid, gymnasium, sports complex, Wi-Fi, and CCTV surveillance. Hostel fees are approximately Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 90,000 per year, which covers accommodation and basic amenities. Mess charges are separate.
Ques. Does SIMATS offer Ph.D. in Physiology after M.Sc Medical Physiology? What is the process?
Ans. Yes, SIMATS offers Ph.D. programmes in Health Sciences including Physiology. M.Sc Medical Physiology graduates from SIMATS or other recognised universities can apply for the Ph.D. programme. Admission is through a university-level entrance test and interview. Students who qualify CSIR-NET/UGC-NET (Life Sciences) may be eligible for JRF fellowships to support their Ph.D. research. Interested candidates should contact the SIMATS research office for the latest Ph.D. admission schedule.
